“‘ When you reap the harvest of your land, you must not wholly reap into the corners of your field, and you must not gather the gleanings of your harvest. You must leave them for the poor, and for the foreigner. I am Yahweh your God.’”

“‘ When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the foreigner residing among you. I am the Lord your God.’”

You shall rejoice before Yahweh your God: you, your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant, the Levite who is within your gates, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow who are among you, in the place which Yahweh your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there.You shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt. You shall observe and do these statutes.You shall keep the feast of booths seven days, after you have gathered in from your threshing floor and from your wine press.You shall rejoice in your feast, you, your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant, the Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow who are within your gates.

When she had risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying,“ Let her glean even among the sheaves, and don’t reproach her.Also pull out some for her from the bundles, and leave it. Let her glean, and don’t rebuke her.”So she gleaned in the field until evening; and she beat out that which she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.She took it up, and went into the city. Then her mother- in- law saw what she had gleaned; and she brought out and gave to her that which she had left after she had enough.Her mother- in- law said to her,“ Where have you gleaned today? Where have you worked? Blessed be he who noticed you.” She told her mother- in- law with whom she had worked,“ The man’s name with whom I worked today is Boaz.”Naomi said to her daughter- in- law,“ May he be blessed by Yahweh, who has not abandoned his kindness to the living and to the dead.” Naomi said to her,“ The man is a close relative to us, one of our near kinsmen.”Ruth the Moabitess said,“ Yes, he said to me,‘ You shall stay close to my young men until they have finished all my harvest.’”Naomi said to Ruth her daughter- in- law,“ It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his maidens, and that they not meet you in any other field.”So she stayed close to the maidens of Boaz, to glean to the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and she lived with her mother- in- law.

She went, and came and gleaned in the field after the reapers; and she happened to come to the portion of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech.Behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers,“ May Yahweh be with you.” They answered him,“ May Yahweh bless you.”Then Boaz said to his servant who was set over the reapers,“ Whose young lady is this?”The servant who was set over the reapers answered,“ It is the Moabite lady who came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab.She said,‘ Please let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves.’ So she came, and has continued even from the morning until now, except that she rested a little in the house.”

I thought it necessary therefore to entreat the brothers that they would go before to you and arrange ahead of time the generous gift that you promised before, that the same might be ready as a matter of generosity, and not of greediness.Remember this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly. He who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion. for God loves a cheerful giver.And God is able to make all grace abound to you, that you, always having all sufficiency in everything, may abound to every good work.As it is written,“ He has scattered abroad. He has given to the poor. His righteousness remains forever.”Now may he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food, supply and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the fruits of your righteousness,you being enriched in everything to all generosity, which produces thanksgiving to God through us.For this service of giving that you perform not only makes up for lack among the saints, but abounds also through much giving of thanks to God,

There is one who scatters, and increases yet more. There is one who withholds more than is appropriate, but gains poverty.The liberal soul shall be made fat. He who waters shall be watered also himself.

Isn’t it to distribute your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you not hide yourself from your own flesh?Then your light will break out as the morning, and your healing will appear quickly; then your righteousness shall go before you, and Yahweh’s glory will be your rear guard.

“ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it( no, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, I have guided her from my mother’s womb);if I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or that the needy had no covering;if his heart hasn’t blessed me, if he hasn’t been warmed with my sheep’s fleece;if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate,

Blessed is he who considers the poor. Yahweh will deliver him in the day of evil.Yahweh will preserve him, and keep him alive. He shall be blessed on the earth, and he will not surrender him to the will of his enemies.Yahweh will sustain him on his sickbed, and restore him from his bed of illness.

and if you pour out your soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul, then your light will rise in darkness, and your obscurity will be as the noonday;

He has dispersed, he has given to the poor. His righteousness endures forever. His horn will be exalted with honor.

But give for gifts to the needy those things which are within, and behold, all things will be clean to you.
