You are therefore to make a distinction between the clean animal and the unclean, and between the unclean bird and the clean; and you shall not make yourselves detestable by animal or by bird, or by anything that crawls on the ground, which I have distinguished for you as unclean.

“‘ You must therefore make a distinction between clean and unclean animals and between unclean and clean birds. Do not defile yourselves by any animal or bird or anything that moves along the ground— those that I have set apart as unclean for you.

“‘ So you must be able to tell the difference between animals that are“ clean” and those that are not. You must know which birds are“ clean” and which are not. Do not make yourselves“ unclean” by eating any“ unclean” animal or bird. Do not make yourselves“ unclean” by eating anything that moves along the ground. I have set all of them apart as“ unclean” for you.

You shall therefore separate the clean beast from the unclean, and the unclean bird from the clean. You shall not make yourselves detestable by beast or by bird or by anything with which the ground crawls, which I have set apart for you to hold unclean.

“ You must therefore make a distinction between ceremonially clean and unclean animals, and between clean and unclean birds. You must not defile yourselves by eating any unclean animal or bird or creature that scurries along the ground. I have identified them as being unclean for you.

Therefore you are to distinguish the clean animal from the unclean one, and the unclean bird from the clean one. Do not become contaminated by any land animal, bird, or whatever crawls on the ground; I have set these apart as unclean for you.

You shall therefore distinguish between clean animals and unclean, between unclean birds and clean, and you shall not make yourselves abominable by beast or by bird, or by any kind of living thing that creeps on the ground, which I have separated from you as unclean.

“ You shall not eat any detestable thing.These are the animals that you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat,the deer, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope, and the mountain sheep.And any animal that has a divided hoof and has its hoofs split in two, and chews the cud, among the animals, that animal you may eat.However, you are not to eat these among the ones that chew the cud, or among those that have the hoof divided in two: the camel, the rabbit, and the rock hyrax, for though they chew the cud, they do not have a divided hoof; they are unclean to you.And the pig, because it has a divided hoof but does not chew the cud, it is unclean for you. You shall not eat any of their flesh, nor touch their carcasses.“ These you may eat of everything that is in the water: anything that has fins and scales you may eat,but anything that does not have fins and scales, you shall not eat; it is unclean for you.“ You may eat any clean bird.But these are the ones that you shall not eat: the eagle and the vulture and the buzzard,and the red kite, the falcon, and the kite in their kinds,and every raven in its kind,and the ostrich, the owl, the seagull, and the hawk in their kinds,the little owl, the great owl, the white owl,the pelican, the carrion vulture, the cormorant,the stork, and the heron in their kinds, and the hoopoe and the bat.And all the swarming insects with wings are unclean to you; they shall not be eaten.You may eat any clean bird.“ You shall not eat anything which dies of itself. You may give it to the stranger who is in your town, so that he may eat it, or you may sell it to a stranger; for you are a holy people to the Lord your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.

The Lord spoke again to Moses and to Aaron, saying to them,“ Speak to the sons of Israel, saying,‘ These are the creatures which you may eat from all the animals that are on the earth.Whatever has a divided hoof, showing split hoofs, and chews the cud, among the animals, that you may eat.Nevertheless, you are not to eat of these, among those which chew the cud, or among those which have a divided hoof: the camel, for though it chews cud, it does not have a divided hoof; it is unclean to you.Likewise, the rock hyrax, for though it chews cud, it does not have a divided hoof; it is unclean to you.The rabbit also, for though it chews cud, it does not have a divided hoof; you may not eat any of their flesh, and you shall detest their carcasses.Whatever in the water does not have fins and scales is detestable to you.‘ Moreover, these you shall detest among the birds; they are detestable, not to be eaten: the eagle, the vulture, and the buzzard,the red kite, the falcon in its kind,every raven in its kind,the ostrich, the owl, the seagull, and the hawk in its kind,the little owl, the cormorant, and the great owl,the white owl, the pelican, and the carrion vulture,the stork, the heron in its kinds, the hoopoe, and the bat.‘ All the winged insects that walk on all fours are detestable to you.Yet these you may eat among all the winged insects that walk on all fours: those which have jointed legs above their feet with which to jump on the earth.These of them you may eat: the locust in its kinds, the devastating locust in its kinds, the cricket in its kinds, and the grasshopper in its kinds.But all other winged insects which are four footed are detestable to you.‘ By these, moreover, you will be made unclean; whoever touches their carcasses becomes unclean until evening,and whoever picks up any of their carcasses shall wash his clothes and be unclean until evening.As for all the animals which have a divided hoof but do not show a split hoof, or do not chew the cud, they are unclean to you; whoever touches them becomes unclean.Also whatever walks on its paws, among all the creatures that walk on all fours, are unclean to you; whoever touches their carcasses becomes unclean until evening,and the one who picks up their carcasses shall wash his clothes and be unclean until evening; they are unclean to you.‘ Now these are to you the unclean among the swarming things which swarm on the earth: the mole, the mouse, and the great lizard in its kinds,the gecko, the crocodile, the lizard, the sand reptile, and the chameleon.These are to you the unclean among all the swarming things; whoever touches them when they are dead becomes unclean until evening.Also anything on which one of them may fall when they are dead becomes unclean, including any wooden article, or clothing, or a hide, or a sack— any article of which use is made— it shall be put in the water and be unclean until evening, then it becomes clean.As for any earthenware vessel into which one of them may fall, whatever is in it becomes unclean and you shall break the vessel.Any of the food which may be eaten, on which water comes, shall become unclean, and any liquid which may be drunk in every vessel shall become unclean.Moreover, everything on which part of their carcass may fall becomes unclean; an oven or a stove shall be smashed; they are unclean and shall continue as unclean to you.Nevertheless, a spring or a cistern collecting water shall be clean, though the one who touches their carcass shall be unclean.Now if a part of their carcass falls on any seed for sowing which is to be sown, it is clean.But if water is put on the seed and a part of their carcass falls on it, it is unclean to you.‘ Also if one of the animals dies which you have for food, the one who touches its carcass becomes unclean until evening.He, too, who eats some of its carcass shall wash his clothes and be unclean until evening, and the one who picks up its carcass shall wash his clothes and be unclean until evening.‘ Now every swarming thing that swarms on the earth is detestable, not to be eaten.Whatever crawls on its belly, and whatever walks on all fours, whatever has many feet, in regard to every swarming thing that swarms on the earth, you shall not eat them, because they are detestable.Do not make yourselves detestable through any of the swarming things that swarm; and you shall not make yourselves unclean with them so that you become unclean.For I am the Lord your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, because I am holy. And you shall not make yourselves unclean with any of the swarming things that swarm on the earth.For I am the Lord who brought you up from the land of Egypt, to be your God; so you shall be holy, because I am holy.’ ”This is the law regarding the animal and the bird, and every living thing that moves in the waters and everything that swarms on the earth,to make a distinction between the unclean and the clean, and between the edible creature and the creature which is not to be eaten.

And he said to them,“ You yourselves know that it is forbidden for a Jewish man to associate with or visit a foreigner; and yet God has shown me that I am not to call any person unholy or unclean.

Therefore do not become partners with them;for you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light( for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),as you try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.Do not participate in the useless deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them;

and he* saw the sky opened up, and an object like a great sheet coming down, lowered by four corners to the ground,and on it were all kinds of four footed animals and crawling creatures of the earth and birds of the sky.A voice came to him,“ Get up, Peter, kill and eat!”But Peter said,“ By no means, Lord, for I have never eaten anything unholy and unclean.”Again a voice came to him a second time,“ What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy.”
