耶和华以色列的神曾经立了盐约，要把以色列国永远赐给大卫和他的子孙，你们不知道吗？

你们的话要常常温和，好像是用盐调和的，使你们知道应当怎样回答各人。

“你们是地上的盐；如果盐失了味，怎能使它再咸呢？结果毫无用处，唯有丢在外面任人践踏。

每一个人必被火当盐来腌。（有些抄本在此有“各祭物必用盐来腌”一句；也有些抄本只有附注的一句，而没有正文的一句）盐是好的，但如果失了味，可以用什么使它再咸呢？你们自己里面应当有盐，彼此和睦。”

他可以要银子三千四百公斤，麦子一百公斤，酒二千二百公升，油二千二百公升，盐却不受限制。
