“‘ Do not have sexual relations with your brother’s wife; that would dishonor your brother.

You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother’s wife; it is your brother’s nakedness.

If a man has sexual intercourse with his brother’s wife, it is indecency. He has exposed his brother’s nakedness; they will be childless.

If brothers live together and one of them dies without having a son, the dead man’s wife must not remarry someone outside the family. Instead, her late husband’s brother must go to her, marry her, and perform the duty of a brother-in-law.

“ Teacher, Moses wrote for us:‘ If a man’ s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, that man must marry the widow and father children for his brother.’

“ Teacher, Moses said,‘ If a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and father children for his brother.’

But when John rebuked Herod the tetrarch because of Herodias, his brother’s wife, and because of all the evil deeds that he had done,

For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,because John had repeatedly told him,“ It is not lawful for you to have her.”

For Herod himself had sent men, arrested John, and bound him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because Herod had married her.
