耶和华就厌弃以色列所有的后裔，使他们受苦，把他们交在抢夺他们的人手中，直到他把他们从自己面前赶出去。当他使以色列从大卫家分离出来的时候，他们立尼八的儿子耶罗波安作王。耶罗波安引诱以色列不随从耶和华，陷入大罪中。以色列人行耶罗波安所犯的一切罪，总不离开，以致耶和华把他们从自己面前赶出去，正如他藉他仆人众先知所说的。这样，以色列人从自己的土地被掳到亚述，直到今日。

王就大怒，发兵除灭那些凶手，烧毁他们的城。

那又怎么说呢？以色列人所寻求的，他们没有得着。但是蒙拣选的人得着了，其余的人却成了顽梗不化的。如经上所记：“上帝给他们昏沉的灵，眼睛看不见，耳朵听不到，直到今日。”大卫也说：“愿他们的宴席变为罗网，变为陷阱，变为绊脚石，作他们的报应。愿他们的眼睛昏花，看不见；愿你时常弯下他们的腰。”那么，我再问，他们失足是要他们跌倒吗？绝对不是！因他们的过犯，救恩反而临到外邦人，要激起他们嫉妒的心。

再从其中取一些扔在火里，在火中焚烧；必有火从其中出来烧尽以色列全家。

耶稣回应他们说：“你们不是看见这一切吗？我实在告诉你们，这里将没有一块石头会留在另一块石头上，而不被拆毁的。”

城被攻破，士兵全都在夜间从靠近王的花园、两城墙中间的门逃跑。迦勒底人正在四围攻城，王就往亚拉巴逃去。迦勒底的军队追赶王，在耶利哥的平原追上他；他的全军都离开他溃散了。迦勒底人就拿住王，带他到利比拉的巴比伦王那里；他们就判他的罪。他们在西底家眼前杀了他的儿女，挖了西底家的眼睛，用铜链锁着他，带到巴比伦去。巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒十九年五月初七，巴比伦王的臣仆尼布撒拉旦护卫长进入耶路撒冷，他焚烧了耶和华的殿、王宫和耶路撒冷一切的房屋；用火焚烧所有大户人家的房屋。跟从护卫长的迦勒底全军拆毁了耶路撒冷四围的城墙。那时尼布撒拉旦护卫长将城里剩下的百姓和那些投降巴比伦王的人，以及其余的众人，都掳去了。但护卫长留下一些当地最穷的人，叫他们修整葡萄园，耕种田地。

只是殿外的院子不用量，因为这是要给外邦人的；他们将践踏圣城四十二个月。
