王就发怒，派兵消灭那些凶手，焚毁他们的城。

他废去邱坛，打碎神柱，砍掉亚舍拉；他又打碎摩西所做的铜蛇，因为直到那些日子，以色列人仍然向它焚香，称它作尼忽士但。

那又怎么样呢？以色列人恳切寻找的，他们没有得到，蒙拣选的人倒得着了。其余的人都成了顽固的，正如经上所记：“神给了他们麻木的灵，有眼睛却看不见，有耳朵却听不到，直到今日。”大卫也说：“愿他们的筵席成为他们的网罗、陷阱、绊脚石和报应；愿他们的眼睛昏暗，不能看见；愿他们的背脊常常弯曲。”那么我要说，他们失足是要倒下去吗？绝对不是！反而因为他们的过犯，救恩就临到外族人，为了要激起他们奋发。

再从这几根须发中取一部分投在火里焚烧；火必从那里蔓延到以色列全家。”

你们或是你们的子孙，若是转去不跟从我，不遵守我赐给你们的诫命和律例，去事奉别的神，敬拜他们，我就必把以色列人从我赐给他们的这地上剪除，甚至为自己的名分别为圣的这殿，我也必从我面前把它丢弃不顾，使以色列人在万族中成为笑谈和讥笑的对象。这殿必成为废墟（按照《马索拉文本》，“成为废墟”应作“甚高”；现参照《叙利亚译本》翻译），经过的人都必惊讶，取笑说：耶和华为什么向这地和这殿这样作啊？人要回答说：是因为他们离弃了那把他们的列祖从埃及地领出来的耶和华他们的神，去亲近别的神，敬拜他们，事奉他们，因此耶和华使这一切灾祸临到他们。’”

他对门徒说：“你们不是看见了这一切吗？我实在告诉你们，将来在这里必没有一块石头留在另一块石头上面，每一块都要拆下来。”

他们毁坏了巴力的神柱，又拆毁了巴力庙，作为厕所，直到今日。

城终于被攻破了，所有的战士就在夜间从靠近王的花园的两墙中间的那门，逃跑出城。那时迦勒底人在四围攻城；他们就往亚拉巴的方向逃走。迦勒底人的军队追赶王，在耶利哥的原野上把他追上了；他的全军都离开他四散了。他们把王擒住，把他解到利比拉巴比伦王那里；他们就宣判他的罪。他们又在西底家眼前杀了他的众子，并且把西底家的眼睛弄瞎，然后用铜链锁住他，把他带到巴比伦去。五月七日，就是巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒第十九年，巴比伦王的大臣，护卫长尼布撒拉旦来到耶路撒冷。他放火焚烧耶和华的殿和王宫，以及耶路撒冷一切房屋；一切高大的房屋，他都放火烧了。跟随护卫长的迦勒底人全军拆毁了耶路撒冷周围的城墙。至于城中剩下的人民，和已经向巴比伦王投降的人，以及剩下的民众，护卫长尼布撒拉旦都掳了去。至于那地最贫穷的人，护卫长把他们留下，去修理葡萄园和耕种田地。

但圣所外面的院子，不要量它，因为它已经给了外族人，他们要践踏圣城四十二个月。
