七月，王室後裔以利沙瑪的孫子、尼探雅的兒子以實瑪利帶著十個人在米斯巴刺殺了基大利以及跟他一起的猶大人和迦勒底人。因為害怕迦勒底人報復，猶大眾人不論貴賤，都和眾將領一起逃往埃及。

於是，耶和華棄絕了以色列全族，使他們飽嚐痛苦，任人宰割，直至把他們從自己眼前趕走。祂使以色列從大衛家分裂出來，以色列人便擁立尼八的兒子耶羅波安為王。耶羅波安誘使以色列人遠離耶和華，使他們犯了大罪。以色列人沉溺於耶羅波安所犯的一切罪中，始終不肯回頭，直到耶和華把他們從自己眼前趕走，正如祂藉自己的僕人——眾先知對他們的警告。這樣，以色列人被擄到亞述，至今仍住在那裡。

王大怒，派軍隊去剿滅凶手，燒毀他們的城。

他拆除邱壇，砸碎神柱，砍倒亞舍拉神像，打碎摩西造的銅蛇，因為當時以色列人仍向銅蛇燒香，稱之為尼忽士旦。

這該怎麼說呢？以色列人努力追求，卻一無所得，只有蒙揀選的人得到了，其他的人都變得頑固不化。正如聖經上說：「上帝使他們至今心智昏迷，眼睛看不見，耳朵聽不到。」大衛也說：「願他們的宴席成為網羅、陷阱、絆腳石，給他們帶來報應；願他們眼目昏暗，無法看見，永遠彎腰駝背。」那麼，以色列人一失足就再也爬不起來了嗎？當然不是！恰好相反，因他們的過犯，救恩臨到了外族人，使他們心生嫉妒。

再從中取出幾根丟在火裡焚燒，必有火從這裡燃起，蔓延到整個以色列。」

放火焚燒耶和華的殿、王宮及城內所有的房屋。他燒毀了所有重要建築。

「然而，如果你們及你們的子孫離棄我，不守我的誡命和律例，去供奉、祭拜別的神明，我必把以色列人從我賜給他們的土地上剷除，並離棄我為自己的名而使之聖潔的這殿，使以色列人在萬民中成為笑柄，被人嘲諷。這殿雖然宏偉，但將來經過的人必驚訝，譏笑說，『耶和華為什麼這樣對待這地方和這殿呢？』人們會回答，『因為他們背棄曾領他們祖先離開埃及的耶和華——他們的上帝，去追隨、祭拜、供奉別的神明，所以耶和華把這一切災禍降在他們身上。』」

耶穌對他們說：「你們看見這殿宇了嗎？我實在告訴你們，將來它要被完全拆毀，在這裡找不到兩塊疊在一起的石頭。」

他們摧毀了巴力的神柱和廟，把廟當作廁所，至今未變。

城被攻破，城裡的所有士兵便在夜間穿過御花園，從兩城牆中間的門逃往亞拉巴。當時迦勒底人仍四面包圍著城。迦勒底軍隊追趕西底迦，在耶利哥平原追上了他，他的軍隊都四散而逃。迦勒底人擒住西底迦，把他押到利比拉見巴比倫王，在那裡審判他。巴比倫王在西底迦面前殺了他的眾子，又剜去他的雙眼，把他用銅鏈鎖著押往巴比倫。巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒執政第十九年五月七日，他的臣僕——護衛長尼布撒拉旦來到耶路撒冷，放火焚燒耶和華的殿、王宮及城內所有的房屋。他燒毀了所有重要建築。他率領的迦勒底軍隊拆毀了耶路撒冷四圍的城牆。護衛長尼布撒拉旦擄去城裡剩下的百姓、投降巴比倫王的人以及其他人，只留下一些最貧窮的人，讓他們照料葡萄園、耕種田地。

你不用量聖殿的外院，因為這部分已經給了外族人，他們要踐踏聖城四十二個月。
