“‘ These are the birds you are to regard as unclean and not eat because they are unclean: the eagle, the vulture, the black vulture,

“‘ Here are the birds you must treat as“ unclean.” Do not eat them because they are“ unclean.” The birds include eagles, vultures and black vultures.

“ And these you shall detest among the birds; they shall not be eaten; they are detestable: the eagle, the bearded vulture, the black vulture,

“ These are the birds that are detestable to you. You must never eat them: the griffon vulture, the bearded vulture, the black vulture,

“ You are to abhor these birds. They must not be eaten because they are abhorrent: eagles, bearded vultures, Egyptian vultures,

‘ Moreover, these you shall detest among the birds; they are detestable, not to be eaten: the eagle, the vulture, and the buzzard,

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers,backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

“ Set the trumpet to your mouth! He shall come like an eagle against the house of the Lord, Because they have transgressed My covenant And rebelled against My law.

But these you shall not eat: the eagle, the vulture, the buzzard,the red kite, the falcon, and the kite after their kinds;every raven after its kind;the ostrich, the short-eared owl, the seagull, and the hawk after their kinds;the little owl, the screech owl, the white owl,the jackdaw, the carrion vulture, the fisher owl,the stork, the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe and the bat.“ Also every creeping thing that flies is unclean for you; they shall not be eaten.“ You may eat all clean birds.

Their horses also are swifter than leopards, And more fierce than evening wolves. Their chargers charge ahead; Their cavalry comes from afar; They fly as the eagle that hastens to eat.

Does the eagle mount up at your command, And make its nest on high?On the rock it dwells and resides, On the crag of the rock and the stronghold.From there it spies out the prey; Its eyes observe from afar.Its young ones suck up blood; And where the slain are, there it is.”

That path no bird knows, Nor has the falcon’s eye seen it.

“ Behold, he shall come up like clouds, And his chariots like a whirlwind. His horses are swifter than eagles. Woe to us, for we are plundered!”

For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.

For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.

For thus says the Lord:“ Behold, one shall fly like an eagle, And spread his wings over Moab.

Who provides food for the raven, When its young ones cry to God, And wander about for lack of food?

“ For My people are foolish, They have not known Me. They are silly children, And they have no understanding. They are wise to do evil, But to do good they have no knowledge.”

Our pursuers were swifter Than the eagles of the heavens. They pursued us on the mountains And lay in wait for us in the wilderness.
