The elders of the daughter of Zion sit on the ground in silence; they have thrown dust on their heads and put on sackcloth; the young women of Jerusalem have bowed their heads to the ground.

The roads to Zion mourn, for none come to the festival; all her gates are desolate; her priests groan; her virgins have been afflicted, and she herself suffers bitterly.

and the sound of harpists and musicians, of flute players and trumpeters, will be heard in you no more, and a craftsman of any craft will be found in you no more, and the sound of the mill will be heard in you no more,

And I will stop the music of your songs, and the sound of your lyres shall be heard no more.

the mighty man and the soldier, the judge and the prophet, the diviner and the elder,the captain of fifty and the man of rank, the counselor and the skillful magician and the expert in charms.

The wine mourns, the vine languishes, all the merry-hearted sigh.The mirth of the tambourines is stilled, the noise of the jubilant has ceased, the mirth of the lyre is stilled.No more do they drink wine with singing; strong drink is bitter to those who drink it.The wasted city is broken down; every house is shut up so that none can enter.There is an outcry in the streets for lack of wine; all joy has grown dark; the gladness of the earth is banished.

Moreover, I will banish from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the grinding of the millstones and the light of the lamp.

For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will silence in this place, before your eyes and in your days, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.

My lyre is turned to mourning, and my pipe to the voice of those who weep.

“ I called to my lovers, but they deceived me; my priests and elders perished in the city, while they sought food to revive their strength.

“ You shall appoint judges and officers in all your towns that the Lord your God is giving you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.
