Even the jackals feed their young, but not my people Israel. They ignore their children’s cries, like ostriches in the desert.

野狗尚且把奶乳哺其子，我民的妇人倒成为残忍，好像旷野的鸵鸟一般。

野狗尚且哺乳其子，我百姓的妇人反倒残忍，如旷野的鸵鸟一般；

野狗尚且哺乳其子，我百姓的妇人反倒残忍，如旷野的鸵鸟一般；

豺狼尚且哺养自己的幼儿，我的子民却像荒野的鸵鸟一样残忍无情。

野狗尚且用乳房哺养它们的幼儿；但我的众民变得多么残忍，像旷野的鸵鸟一样。

Even jackals offer their breasts to nurse their young, but my people have become heartless like ostriches in the desert.

Even wild dogs nurse their young pups. But my people are as mean as ostriches in the desert.

Parents will eat their own children, and children will eat their parents. I will punish you and scatter to the winds the few who survive.

I will see to it that your enemies lay siege to the city until all the food is gone. Then those trapped inside will eat their own sons and daughters and friends. They will be driven to utter despair.’

“ The ostrich flaps her wings grandly, but they are no match for the feathers of the stork.She lays her eggs on top of the earth, letting them be warmed in the dust.She doesn’t worry that a foot might crush them or a wild animal might destroy them.She is harsh toward her young, as if they were not her own. She doesn’t care if they die.

Tenderhearted women have cooked their own children. They have eaten them to survive the siege.

They will attack your cities until all the fortified walls in your land— the walls you trusted to protect you— are knocked down. They will attack all the towns in the land the Lord your God has given you.“ The siege and terrible distress of the enemy’s attack will be so severe that you will eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters, whom the Lord your God has given you.The most tenderhearted man among you will have no compassion for his own brother, his beloved wife, and his surviving children.He will refuse to share with them the flesh he is devouring— the flesh of one of his own children— because he has nothing else to eat during the siege and terrible distress that your enemy will inflict on all your towns.The most tender and delicate woman among you— so delicate she would not so much as touch the ground with her foot— will be selfish toward the husband she loves and toward her own son or daughter.She will hide from them the afterbirth and the new baby she has borne, so that she herself can secretly eat them. She will have nothing else to eat during the siege and terrible distress that your enemy will inflict on all your towns.

“ O Lord, think about this! Should you treat your own people this way? Should mothers eat their own children, those they once bounced on their knees? Should priests and prophets be killed within the Lord’s Temple?

Then you will eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters.

But Jesus turned and said to them,“ Daughters of Jerusalem, don’t weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.For the days are coming when they will say,‘ Fortunate indeed are the women who are childless, the wombs that have not borne a child and the breasts that have never nursed.’

They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy.

One day as the king of Israel was walking along the wall of the city, a woman called to him,“ Please help me, my lord the king!”He answered,“ If the Lord doesn’t help you, what can I do? I have neither food from the threshing floor nor wine from the press to give you.”But then the king asked,“ What is the matter?” She replied,“ This woman said to me:‘ Come on, let’s eat your son today, then we will eat my son tomorrow.’So we cooked my son and ate him. Then the next day I said to her,‘ Kill your son so we can eat him,’ but she has hidden her son.”

“ Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you!
