耶和華在一日之間從以色列中剪除了頭與尾－棕樹枝與蘆葦－長老和顯要就是頭，以謊言教人的先知就是尾。因為引導這百姓的使他們走入迷途，被引導的都必被吞滅。

他們吊起領袖的手，使長老臉上無光。

護衛長拿住西萊雅大祭司、西番亞副祭司和門口的三個守衛，又從城中拿住一個管理士兵的官，並在城裏所找到王面前的五個親信，和召募當地百姓之將軍的書記官，以及在城中找到的六十個當地百姓。尼布撒拉旦護衛長把這些人帶到利比拉的巴比倫王那裏。巴比倫王擊殺他們，在哈馬地的利比拉把他們處死。這樣，猶大人就被擄去離開本地。

「耶和華必使你在仇敵面前潰敗。你從一條路去攻擊他們，必從七條路逃跑。地上萬國必因你而驚駭。

所以，耶和華使迦勒底人的王來攻擊他們，在他們聖殿裏用刀殺了他們的壯丁，不憐憫他們的少男少女、老人長者。耶和華把所有的人都交在他手裏。

他們火爆的烈怒可詛，他們兇殘的憤恨可咒！我要把他們分散在雅各中，使他們散居在以色列。

不像我拉着他們祖宗的手領他們出埃及地的時候，與他們所立的約；因為他們不恆心守我的約，所以我也不理他們；這是主說的。

我曾說，我要粉碎他們，使他們的名從人間消失。

耶和華必把你們分散在萬民中，從地的這邊到地的另一邊，在那裏你必事奉你和你列祖不認識的神明，就是木頭和石頭。在那些國中，你必得不到安寧，腳掌也沒有安歇之處；耶和華卻要使你在那裏心中發顫，眼目失明，精神沮喪。

我必使他們在地上萬國中成為恐懼，成為災禍，在我趕逐他們到的各處成為凌辱、笑柄、譏笑、詛咒的對象。

我必使地上萬國因他們而驚駭，都因希西家的兒子猶大王瑪拿西在耶路撒冷所做的事。」

然而，他聽見他們哀告的時候，就眷顧他們的急難，

我要把你們驅散到列國中，也要拔刀追趕你們。你們的地要成為荒涼，你們的城鎮要變成廢墟。「當你們在敵人之地的時候，你們的地要在一切荒涼的日子重享安息；在那時候，地要休息，重享安息。地在一切荒涼的日子都要安息，這是你們住在其上的時候所不能得的安息。至於你們倖存的人，我要使他們在敵人之地心中驚慌，甚至風吹落葉的聲音也把他們嚇跑。他們要逃避，像人逃避刀劍，雖無人追趕，卻要跌倒。雖然無人追趕，他們卻要彼此絆倒，像逃避刀劍一樣。你們在仇敵面前必站立不住。你們要在列國中滅亡，敵人之地要吞滅你們，你們倖存的人必因自己的罪孽在敵人之地衰殘，也要因祖先的罪孽衰殘。
