O LORD, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived: thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me.

Behold their sitting down, and their rising up; I[ am] their musick.

But I[ am] a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head,[ saying],

I made sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them.They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I[ was] the song of the drunkards.

We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.

For was not Israel a derision unto thee? was he found among thieves? for since thou spakest of him, thou skippedst for joy.

But now[ they that are] younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.Yea, whereto[ might] the strength of their hands[ profit] me, in whom old age was perished?For want and famine[ they were] solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste.Who cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots[ for] their meat.They were driven forth from among[ men],( they cried after them as[ after] a thief;)To dwell in the clifts of the valleys,[ in] caves of the earth, and[ in] the rocks.Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.[ They were] children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.And now am I their song, yea, I am their byword.

Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease,[ and] with the contempt of the proud.

For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.We[ are] fools for Christ’s sake, but ye[ are] wise in Christ; we[ are] weak, but ye[ are] strong; ye[ are] honourable, but we[ are] despised.Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace;And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world,[ and are] the offscouring of all things unto this day.

Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.
