The Lord has rejected his altar and abandoned his sanctuary. He has given the walls of her palaces into the hands of the enemy; they have raised a shout in the house of the Lord as on the day of an appointed festival.

The Lord deserted his altar. He left his temple. He gave the walls of Jerusalem’s palaces into the hands of her enemies. They shouted loudly in the house of the Lord. You would have thought it was the day of an appointed feast.

The Lord has scorned his altar, disowned his sanctuary; he has delivered into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces; they raised a clamor in the house of the Lord as on the day of festival.

The Lord has rejected his own altar; he despises his own sanctuary. He has given Jerusalem’s palaces to her enemies. They shout in the Lord’s Temple as though it were a day of celebration.

Lift up your feet to the perpetual ruins, all the evil that the enemy has done in the sanctuary.Your adversaries have roared in the middle of your assembly. They have set up their standards as signs.They behaved like men wielding axes, cutting through a thicket of trees.Now they break all its carved work down with hatchet and hammers.They have burned your sanctuary to the ground. They have profaned the dwelling place of your Name.They said in their heart,“ We will crush them completely.” They have burned up all the places in the land where God was worshiped.

When God heard this, he was angry, and greatly abhorred Israel,so that he abandoned the tent of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men,and delivered his strength into captivity, his glory into the adversary’s hand.

‘ Speak to the house of Israel,“ The Lord Yahweh says:‘ Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pities; and your sons and your daughters whom you have left behind will fall by the sword.

As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty; but they made the images of their abominations and their detestable things therein. Therefore I have made it to them as an unclean thing.I will give it into the hands of the strangers for a prey, and to the wicked of the earth for a plunder; and they will profane it.I will also turn my face from them, and they will profane my secret place. Robbers will enter into it, and profane it.

He burned Yahweh’s house, and the king’s house; and all the houses of Jerusalem, even every great house, he burned with fire.

The Chaldeans, who fight against this city, will come and set this city on fire, and burn it with the houses on whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal, and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.

The Chaldeans burned the king’s house, and the houses of the people, with fire, and broke down the walls of Jerusalem.

The Lord has become as an enemy. He has swallowed up Israel. He has swallowed up all her palaces. He has destroyed his strongholds. He has multiplied mourning and lamentation in the daughter of Judah.

I will lay your cities waste, and will bring your sanctuaries to desolation. I will not take delight in the sweet fragrance of your offerings.

but I will send a fire on Judah, and it will devour the palaces of Jerusalem.”

Therefore Zion for your sake will be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem will become heaps of rubble, and the mountain of the temple like the high places of a forest.

Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly and to break my covenant with them; for I am Yahweh their God.

and set up false witnesses who said,“ This man never stops speaking blasphemous words against this holy place and the law.For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us.”

But he answered them,“ You see all of these things, don’t you? Most certainly I tell you, there will not be left here one stone on another, that will not be thrown down.”

They burned God’s house, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem, and burned all its palaces with fire, and destroyed all of its valuable vessels.

He will judge the poor of the people. He will save the children of the needy, and will break the oppressor in pieces.They shall fear you while the sun endures; and as long as the moon, throughout all generations.He will come down like rain on the mown grass, as showers that water the earth.In his days, the righteous shall flourish, and abundance of peace, until the moon is no more.He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, from the River to the ends of the earth.Those who dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him. His enemies shall lick the dust.The kings of Tarshish and of the islands will bring tribute. The kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.Yes, all kings shall fall down before him. All nations shall serve him.For he will deliver the needy when he cries; the poor, who has no helper.He will have pity on the poor and needy. He will save the souls of the needy.He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence. Their blood will be precious in his sight.They shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba. Men shall pray for him continually. They shall bless him all day long.Abundance of grain shall be throughout the land. Its fruit sways like Lebanon. Let it flourish, thriving like the grass of the field.His name endures forever. His name continues as long as the sun. Men shall be blessed by him. All nations will call him blessed.Praise be to Yahweh God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds.Blessed be his glorious name forever! Let the whole earth be filled with his glory! Your holy cities have become a wilderness. Zion has become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.Our holy and our beautiful house where our fathers praised you is burned with fire. All our pleasant places are laid waste.

“ But go now to my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.Now, because you have done all these works,” says Yahweh,“ and I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you didn’t hear; and I called you, but you didn’t answer;therefore I will do to the house which is called by my name, in which you trust, and to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I did to Shiloh.

then I will make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.”’”

How has the Lord covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger! He has cast the beauty of Israel down from heaven to the earth, and hasn’t remembered his footstool in the day of his anger.

Therefore I will bring the worst of the nations, and they will possess their houses. I will also make the pride of the strong to cease. Their holy places will be profaned.

‘ Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great and difficult things, which you don’t know.’For Yahweh, the God of Israel, says concerning the houses of this city and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are broken down to make a defense against the mounds and against the sword;while men come to fight with the Chaldeans, and to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have killed in my anger and in my wrath, and for all whose wickedness I have hidden my face from this city:
