The visions of your prophets were false and worthless; they did not expose your sin to ward off your captivity. The prophecies they gave you were false and misleading.

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.

But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.

I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.How long shall[ this] be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea,[ they are] prophets of the deceit of their own heart;Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What[ is] the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD.[ Is] not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer[ that] breaketh the rock in pieces?

Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:

Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say thou unto them that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD;Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!O Israel, thy prophets are like the foxes in the deserts.Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD.They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made[ others] to hope that they would confirm the word.Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The LORD saith[ it]; albeit I have not spoken?Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I[ am] against you, saith the Lord GOD.And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I[ am] the Lord GOD.Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and[ there was] no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered[ morter]:Say unto them which daub[ it] with untempered[ morter], that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall rend[ it].Lo, when the wall is fallen, shall it not be said unto you, Where[ is] the daubing wherewith ye have daubed[ it]?Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even rend[ it] with a stormy wind in my fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger, and great hailstones in[ my] fury to consume[ it].So will I break down the wall that ye have daubed with untempered[ morter], and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation thereof shall be discovered, and it shall fall, and ye shall be consumed in the midst thereof: and ye shall know that I[ am] the LORD.Thus will I accomplish my wrath upon the wall, and upon them that have daubed it with untempered[ morter], and will say unto you, The wall[ is] no[ more], neither they that daubed it;[ To wit], the prophets of Israel which prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and which see visions of peace for her, and[ there is] no peace, saith the Lord GOD.

For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that[ be] in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.

And the burden of the LORD shall ye mention no more: for every man’s word shall be his burden; for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts our God.

The ancient and honourable, he[ is] the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he[ is] the tail.For the leaders of this people cause[ them] to err; and[ they that are] led of them[ are] destroyed.

Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah; The LORD hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie.
