Her filthiness clung to her skirts; she did not consider her future. Her fall was astounding; there was none to comfort her.“ Look, Lord, on my affliction, for the enemy has triumphed.”

Her skirts are dirty. She didn’t think about how things might turn out. Her fall from power amazed everyone. And no one was there to comfort her. She said,“ Lord, please pay attention to how much I’m suffering. My enemies have won the battle over me.”

She defiled herself with immorality and gave no thought to her future. Now she lies in the gutter with no one to lift her out.“ Lord, see my misery,” she cries.“ The enemy has triumphed.”

O that they were wise,[ that] they understood this,[ that] they would consider their latter end!

And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever:[ so] that thou didst not lay these[ things] to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.

So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of[ such as were] oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors[ there was] power; but they had no comforter.

Zion spreadeth forth her hands,[ and there is] none to comfort her: the LORD hath commanded concerning Jacob,[ that] his adversaries[ should be] round about him: Jerusalem is as a menstruous woman among them.

Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.

Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth[ will let], until he be taken out of the way.And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

Make ye him drunken: for he magnified[ himself] against the LORD: Moab also shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision.

Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.

This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified[ themselves] against the people of the LORD of hosts.

But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for[ your] pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD’S flock is carried away captive.Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down,[ even] the crown of your glory.

For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings[ are] against the LORD, to provoke the eyes of his glory.

RESH. Consider mine affliction, and deliver me: for I do not forget thy law.

And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

They have heard that I sigh:[ there is] none to comfort me: all mine enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that thou hast done[ it]: thou wilt bring the day[ that] thou hast called, and they shall be like unto me.

And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

What thing shall I take to witness for thee? what thing shall I liken to thee, O daughter of Jerusalem? what shall I equal to thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Zion? for thy breach[ is] great like the sea: who can heal thee?

And when we cried unto the LORD God of our fathers, the LORD heard our voice, and looked on our affliction, and our labour, and our oppression:

Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord’s sake.O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies.O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.

The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love[ to have it] so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?

They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.We see not our signs:[ there is] no more any prophet: neither[ is there] among us any that knoweth how long.

How is the gold become dim![ how] is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.

Incline thine ear, O LORD, and hear; open thine eyes, O LORD, and see: and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent to reproach the living God.

O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest,[ and] not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.

It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day.

Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should behave themselves strangely,[ and] lest they should say, Our hand[ is] high, and the LORD hath not done all this.

Neither shall[ men] tear[ themselves] for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall[ men] give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.
