All the splendor has departed from Daughter Zion. Her princes are like deer that find no pasture; in weakness they have fled before the pursuer.

The city of Zion used to be full of glory. But now her glory has faded away. Her princes are like deer. They can’t find anything to eat. They are almost too weak to get away from those who hunt them down.

From the daughter of Zion all her majesty has departed. Her princes have become like deer that find no pasture; they fled without strength before the pursuer.

All the majesty of beautiful Jerusalem has been stripped away. Her princes are like starving deer searching for pasture. They are too weak to run from the pursuing enemy.

All the splendor has vanished from Daughter Zion. Her leaders are like stags that find no pasture; they stumble away exhausted before the hunter.

The LORD shall cause thee to be smitten before thine enemies: thou shalt go out one way against them, and flee seven ways before them: and shalt be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.

And upon them that are left[ alive] of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.

As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty: but they made the images of their abominations[ and] of their detestable things therein: therefore have I set it far from them.And I will give it into the hands of the strangers for a prey, and to the wicked of the earth for a spoil; and they shall pollute it.My face will I turn also from them, and they shall pollute my secret[ place]: for the robbers shall enter into it, and defile it.

At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong[ horses], at the rushing of his chariots,[ and at] the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to[ their] children for feebleness of hands;

Then the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled, and went forth out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which[ was] by the king’s garden;( now the Chaldeans[ were] by the city round about:) and they went by the way of the plain.But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after the king, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him.

Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies,[ but] turned[ their] backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel,[ There is] an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.

Kerioth is taken, and the strong holds are surprised, and the mighty men’s hearts in Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.

The mighty men of Babylon have forborn to fight, they have remained in[ their] holds: their might hath failed; they became as women: they have burned her dwellingplaces; her bars are broken.One post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to shew the king of Babylon that his city is taken at[ one] end,And that the passages are stopped, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are affrighted.

And burned the house of the LORD, and the king’s house; and all the houses of Jerusalem, and all the houses of the great[ men], burned he with fire:

How is the faithful city become an harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers.

This[ is] the word that the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin the daughter of Zion hath despised thee,[ and] laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.

Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great[ is] the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.

Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.

Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook[ it], because there was no grass.And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because[ there was] no grass.

If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired[ it] for his habitation.

How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up?

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;

Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth,[ is] mount Zion,[ on] the sides of the north, the city of the great King.God is known in her palaces for a refuge.

O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.

Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down,[ even] the crown of your glory.

Speak unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the excellency of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pitieth; and your sons and your daughters whom ye have left shall fall by the sword.

But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves.Thou hast given us like sheep[ appointed] for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen.

Then did the cherubims lift up their wings, and the wheels beside them; and the glory of the God of Israel[ was] over them above.And the glory of the LORD went up from the midst of the city, and stood upon the mountain which[ is] on the east side of the city.

How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?And David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged[ them] up over the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth, and buried[ it] in the sepulchre of Abner in Hebron.

How hath the Lord covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger,[ and] cast down from heaven unto the earth the beauty of Israel, and remembered not his footstool in the day of his anger!The Lord hath swallowed up all the habitations of Jacob, and hath not pitied: he hath thrown down in his wrath the strong holds of the daughter of Judah; he hath brought[ them] down to the ground: he hath polluted the kingdom and the princes thereof.He hath cut off in[ his] fierce anger all the horn of Israel: he hath drawn back his right hand from before the enemy, and he burned against Jacob like a flaming fire,[ which] devoureth round about.He hath bent his bow like an enemy: he stood with his right hand as an adversary, and slew all[ that were] pleasant to the eye in the tabernacle of the daughter of Zion: he poured out his fury like fire.The Lord was as an enemy: he hath swallowed up Israel, he hath swallowed up all her palaces: he hath destroyed his strong holds, and hath increased in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation.And he hath violently taken away his tabernacle, as[ if it were of] a garden: he hath destroyed his places of the assembly: the LORD hath caused the solemn feasts and sabbaths to be forgotten in Zion, and hath despised in the indignation of his anger the king and the priest.The Lord hath cast off his altar, he hath abhorred his sanctuary, he hath given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces; they have made a noise in the house of the LORD, as in the day of a solemn feast.

And the LORD will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory[ shall be] a defence.
