As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation[ that] could not save[ us].

For both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the LORD.Wherefore their way shall be unto them as slippery[ ways] in the darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall therein: for I will bring evil upon them,[ even] the year of their visitation, saith the LORD.And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal, and caused my people Israel to err.I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth into all the land.

But where[ are] thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for[ according to] the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.

All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity;[ because] thy sins were increased.

Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.Therefore thou shalt say this word unto them; Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.

Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing[ was] of sapphire:Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.[ They that be] slain with the sword are better than[ they that be] slain with hunger: for these pine away, stricken through for[ want of] the fruits of the field.

Why will ye die, thou and thy people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as the LORD hath spoken against the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?Therefore hearken not unto the words of the prophets that speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: for they prophesy a lie unto you.For I have not sent them, saith the LORD, yet they prophesy a lie in my name; that I might drive you out, and that ye might perish, ye, and the prophets that prophesy unto you.
