The men of Israel said to the Hivites,“ What if you live among us? How could we make a covenant with you?”

以色列人对这些希未人说：“你们也许就住在附近。我们怎么能跟你们缔结盟约呢？”

以色列人对这些希未人说：“你们也许是这地的居民，若是这样，我们怎样和你们立约呢？”

以色列人謂希未人曰、爾殆居於我中、焉能與爾立約、

以色列族謂自基遍來之希未人、曰、恐爾居處離我不遠、焉能與爾立約。

以色列人謂此希未人曰、恐爾居於我中、焉能與爾立約乎、

The Israelites said to the Hivites,“ But perhaps you live near us, so how can we make a treaty with you?”

The Israelites said to the Hivites,“ But suppose you live close to us. If you do, we can’t make a peace treaty with you.”

But the men of Israel said to the Hivites,“ Perhaps you live among us; then how can we make a covenant with you?”

The Israelites replied to these Hivites,“ How do we know you don’t live nearby? For if you do, we cannot make a treaty with you.”

The men of Israel replied to the Hivites,“ Perhaps you live among us. How can we make a treaty with you?”

But the men of Israel said to the Hivites,“ Perhaps you are living within our land; how then are we to make a covenant with you?”

Then the men of Israel said to the Hivites,“ Perhaps you dwell among us; so how can we make a covenant with you?”

And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, Peradventure ye dwell among us; and how shall we make a covenant with you?

The men of Israel replied to the Hivites,“ Perhaps you live among us. How can we make a treaty with you?”

And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, Peradventure ye dwell among us; and how shall we make a league with you?

The men of Israel said to the Hivites,“ Perhaps you live near us. So how can we make a treaty with you?”

There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, except the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took all in battle.

You shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land. You shall break down their altars.’ But you have not listened to my voice. Why have you done this?

and when Yahweh your God delivers them up before you, and you strike them, then you shall utterly destroy them. I will set your border from the Red Sea even to the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the River; for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you.You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me, for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”
