And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, Peradventure ye dwell among us; and how shall we make a covenant with you?

以色列人对这些希未人说：“你们也许就住在附近。我们怎么能跟你们缔结盟约呢？”

以色列人对这些希未人说：“你们也许是这地的居民，若是这样，我们怎样和你们立约呢？”

以色列人謂希未人曰、爾殆居於我中、焉能與爾立約、

以色列族謂自基遍來之希未人、曰、恐爾居處離我不遠、焉能與爾立約。

以色列人謂此希未人曰、恐爾居於我中、焉能與爾立約乎、

The Israelites said to the Hivites,“ But perhaps you live near us, so how can we make a treaty with you?”

The Israelites said to the Hivites,“ But suppose you live close to us. If you do, we can’t make a peace treaty with you.”

But the men of Israel said to the Hivites,“ Perhaps you live among us; then how can we make a covenant with you?”

The Israelites replied to these Hivites,“ How do we know you don’t live nearby? For if you do, we cannot make a treaty with you.”

The men of Israel replied to the Hivites,“ Perhaps you live among us. How can we make a treaty with you?”

But the men of Israel said to the Hivites,“ Perhaps you are living within our land; how then are we to make a covenant with you?”

Then the men of Israel said to the Hivites,“ Perhaps you dwell among us; so how can we make a covenant with you?”

The men of Israel replied to the Hivites,“ Perhaps you live among us. How can we make a treaty with you?”

And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, Peradventure ye dwell among us; and how shall we make a league with you?

The men of Israel said to the Hivites,“ Perhaps you live near us. So how can we make a treaty with you?”

The men of Israel said to the Hivites,“ What if you live among us? How could we make a covenant with you?”

There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: they took all in battle.

and ye shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall break down their altars. But ye have not hearkened unto my voice: why have ye done this?

and when Jehovah thy God shall deliver them up before thee, and thou shalt smite them; then thou shalt utterly destroy them: thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them;neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.

then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their figured stones, and destroy all their molten images, and demolish all their high places:

And Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her; and he took her, and lay with her, and humbled her.

Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee:

And it came to pass, when all the kings that were beyond the Jordan, in the hill- country, and in the lowland, and on all the shore of the great sea in front of Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, heard thereof;

But of the cities of these peoples, that Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth;

And I will set thy border from the Red Sea even unto the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness unto the River: for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand: and thou shalt drive them out before thee.Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against me; for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee.
