Joshua summoned the Gibeonites and said to them,“ Why did you deceive us by telling us you live far away from us, when in fact you live among us?

約書亞把他們召了來，告訴他們說：『為甚麼你們哄騙我們說：「我們離你們很遠」，其實你們卻是住在我們中間的？

約書亞召之曰、爾居我中、何言離此甚遠、以欺我耶、

約書亞召基遍人曰、爾之居處鄰近於我、曷欺我、言來自遠方乎。

Then Joshua summoned the Gibeonites and said,“ Why did you deceive us by saying,‘ We live a long way from you,’ while actually you live near us?

Joshua sent for the people of Gibeon. He said to them,“ Why did you trick us? You said,‘ We live far away from you.’ But in fact you live close to us.

Joshua summoned them, and he said to them,“ Why did you deceive us, saying,‘ We are very far from you,’ when you dwell among us?

Joshua called together the Gibeonites and said,“ Why did you lie to us? Why did you say that you live in a distant land when you live right here among us?

Joshua summoned the Gibeonites and said to them,“ Why did you deceive us by telling us you live far away from us, when in fact you live among us?

Then Joshua called for them and spoke to them, saying,“ Why have you deceived us, saying,‘ We are very far from you,’ when you are living within our land?

Then Joshua called for them, and he spoke to them, saying,“ Why have you deceived us, saying,‘ We are very far from you,’ when you dwell near us?

And Joshua called for them, and he spake unto them, saying, Wherefore have ye beguiled us, saying, We are very far from you; when ye dwell among us?

And Joshua called for them, and he spake unto them, saying, Wherefore have ye beguiled us, saying, We[ are] very far from you; when ye dwell among us?

Joshua summoned the Gibeonites and said to them,“ Why did you trick us by saying,‘ We live far away from you,’ when you really live nearby?

Joshua called for them, and he spoke to them, saying,“ Why have you deceived us, saying,‘ We are very far from you,’ when you live among us?

They went to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal and said to him and the men of Israel,“ We have come from a distant land. Please make a treaty with us.”

Three days after making the treaty with them, they heard that the Gibeonites were their neighbors, living among them.

When morning came, there was Leah! So he said to Laban,“ What is this you have done to me? Wasn’t it for Rachel that I worked for you? Why have you deceived me?”

They replied to him,“ Your servants have come from a far away land because of the reputation of the Lord your God. For we have heard of His fame, and all that He did in Egypt,and all that He did to the two Amorite kings beyond the Jordan— Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan, who was in Ashtaroth.

Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. And Esau determined in his heart:“ The days of mourning for my father are approaching; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”When the words of her older son Esau were reported to Rebekah, she summoned her younger son Jacob and said to him,“ Listen, your brother Esau is consoling himself by planning to kill you.So now, my son, listen to me. Flee at once to my brother Laban in Haran,and stay with him for a few days until your brother’s anger subsides—until your brother’s rage turns away from you and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send for you and bring you back from there. Why should I lose you both in one day?”

So the Lord God asked the woman,“ What is this you have done?” And the woman said,“ It was the serpent. He deceived me, and I ate.”Then the Lord God said to the serpent: Because you have done this, you are cursed more than any livestock and more than any wild animal. You will move on your belly and eat dust all the days of your life.

But he replied,“ Your brother came deceitfully and took your blessing.”So he said,“ Isn’t he rightly named Jacob? For he has cheated me twice now. He took my birthright, and look, now he has taken my blessing.” Then he asked,“ Haven’t you saved a blessing for me?”

But I fear that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your minds may be seduced from a complete and pure devotion to Christ.
