The Israelites sampled their provisions but did not inquire of the Lord.

“ The rebellious children are as good as dead,” says the LORD,“ those who make plans without consulting me, who form alliances without consulting my Spirit, and thereby compound their sin.They travel down to Egypt without seeking my will, seeking Pharaoh’s protection, and looking for safety in Egypt’s protective shade.

But if anyone is deficient in wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without reprimand, and it will be given to him.

“ You are to put the Urim and the Thummim into the breastpiece of decision; and they are to be over Aaron’s heart when he goes in before the LORD. Aaron is to bear the decisions of the Israelites over his heart before the LORD continually.

When David realized that Saul was planning to harm him, he told Abiathar the priest,“ Bring the ephod!”Then David said,“ O LORD God of Israel, your servant has clearly heard that Saul is planning to come to Keilah to destroy the city because of me.Will the leaders of Keilah deliver me into his hand? Will Saul come down as your servant has heard? O LORD God of Israel, please inform your servant!” Then the LORD said,“ He will come down.”David asked,“ Will the leaders of Keilah deliver me and my men into Saul’s hand?” The LORD said,“ They will deliver you over.”

The Israelites went up to Bethel and asked God,“ Who should lead the charge against the Benjaminites?” The LORD said,“ Judah should lead.”
