The Israelites sampled their provisions but did not inquire of the Lord.

Saul died for his unfaithfulness to the LORD because he did not keep the LORD’s word. He even consulted a medium for guidance,but he did not inquire of the LORD. So the LORD put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.

Woe to the rebellious children! This is the LORD’s declaration. They carry out a plan, but not mine; they make an alliance, but against my will, piling sin on top of sin.Without asking my advice they set out to go down to Egypt in order to seek shelter under Pharaoh’s protection and take refuge in Egypt’s shadow.

Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God— who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly— and it will be given to him.

Place the Urim and Thummim in the breastpiece for decisions, so that they will also be over Aaron’s heart whenever he comes before the LORD. Aaron will continually carry the means of decisions for the Israelites over his heart before the LORD.

When David learned that Saul was plotting evil against him, he said to the priest Abiathar,“ Bring the ephod.”Then David said,“ LORD God of Israel, your servant has reliable information that Saul intends to come to Keilah and destroy the town because of me.Will the citizens of Keilah hand me over to him? Will Saul come down as your servant has heard? LORD God of Israel, please tell your servant.” The LORD answered,“ He will come down.”Then David asked,“ Will the citizens of Keilah hand me and my men over to Saul?”“ They will,” the LORD responded.

They set out, went to Bethel, and inquired of God. The Israelites asked,“ Who is to go first to fight for us against the Benjaminites?” And the LORD answered,“ Judah will be first.”
