以色列人在基比亞四周設下伏兵。

掃羅到了亞瑪力人的城市，就在山谷中設下伏兵。

智慧使智慧人比城中十個官長更有能力。

你不要聽他們，因為他們有四十多人正在埋伏起來等著保羅；他們發了誓，不殺保羅，就不吃不喝。現在他們已經準備好了，只等你答應。”

這樣，便雅憫人就看出自己被擊敗了。原來以色列人倚靠在基比亞前面設下的伏兵，就對便雅憫人詐敗。

示劍人在山頂上設下埋伏，路過他們那裡的，他們都劫掠；有人把這事告訴亞比米勒。

以色列眾人都從自己的地方起來，在巴力．他瑪列陣；以色列的伏兵，從基比亞西邊埋伏的地方衝出來。

於是我說：“智慧勝過武力”，但是那個窮人的智慧被藐視，他的話也沒有人聽從。

城裡的眾民都被召集，去追趕他們；艾城的人追趕約書亞的時候，就都被誘離城。

萬軍之耶和華這樣說：‘以色列人從埃及上來的時候，亞瑪力人對他們所行的，在路上攻擊他們的事，我必要懲罰。
