奪其妻孥牲畜、與邑中所有之貨財、爾上帝耶和華、以敵所有錫爾、爾可得之。

盡滅所有、戮男女老幼、牛羊與驢。

作善之人、業遺子孫、惡者之財、為義者所得。

甫頌讚時、耶和華發伏兵、攻猶大之敵、使亞捫摩押二族、及西耳山人、互相攻擊。

是日約書亞取馬基大、刃擊其王、盡滅其民、靡有孑遺。如昔伐耶利哥王、今伐馬基大王亦如是。

我遁時、汝離伏所、以取其邑、蓋爾上帝耶和華必以邑付爾。

各人所為、無非捉影、諠譟徒勞兮、積累財貨、不知孰得兮。

又簡五千人、使伏於邑西伯特利東、

誠慤之人、永膺多福、急圖富有、必召禍災。

埃王見之、則率眾速往、迎以色列族、尅期谷中與戰、不知邑後兵伏。

上帝曰、無知者乎、今夜將索爾魂、則所備者誰歸、凡積財於己、而上帝前不富有者、亦如是、○

雖藏金若泥沙、積衣若邱陵、而衣適為義人之衣、金適為善人之金、

耶羅破暗伏兵於後、環而攻之、於是以色列人在前、伏兵在後。

耶路撒冷王、亞多尼西特聞約書亞取埃而盡滅之、如昔伐耶利哥及其王、今伐埃與其王然、亦聞基遍民與以色列族修好、而居其中。

惟邑之貨財牲畜、以色列族取之、循耶和華所諭約書亞之命。約書亞爇埃、使為瓦礫、今日之事為證。懸埃王於木、至於終日。日沒時、約書亞命取尸下木、投於邑門、壘石為岡、至今尚存。○

手舉時、兵離伏所、趨入邑中、取而焚之。

譬彼鷓鴣、非己之卵、覆翼而育之、亦猶得非義之利者、不終身而失之、其愚孰甚。

以色列族使伏兵環其庇亞。越至三日、以色列族往攻便雅憫族、仍於其庇亞前陳列行伍。便雅憫族出、攻擊以色列眾、遠離其邑、至通衢二、一詣伯特利、一詣田間之其庇亞、仍殺以色列族、約三十人、自謂其族敗北如故、惟以色列族佯為逃遁、欲誘之離邑、至於通衢。時以色列族離其所、列陳於巴力大馬伏者盡出、自其庇亞平原而來。

耶和華告我曰、毋畏、我必以王、及其民人、土地、付於汝手、昔在希實本、滅亞摩哩王西宏、今之待噩、亦必若是。

約書亞既遣之、則往伏於伯特利東、埃邑西。是夜約書亞宿於民中、

埃之居民、追以色列族、至於田野、反為以色列族殺戮、俱死以刃、淪胥以亡、後以色列族至埃邑、盡滅所有。
