當時就有全以色列精兵一萬來到基比亞前面，戰勢很是猛烈，便雅憫人卻不知道災禍即將觸到自己身上來。永恆主在以色列面前擊敗了便雅憫；那一天以色列人殲滅了便雅憫中二萬五千一百人、都是能拔刀的。這樣，便雅憫人就看出自己已被擊敗了。先是以色列人因為倚靠對基比亞所設的伏兵，就對便雅憫讓讓步。

他們並且要本着貪婪的心、用揑造的話、在你們身上牟取財利。他們之定受處刑從太古以來就沒有懶於執行；他們之定必滅亡並沒有打盹過。

弟兄們，關於時候與時期、你們無需乎人寫信給你們了，因為你們自己明確地曉得主的日子就像個賊夜裏來到一樣。人正說平安穩妥的時候，就在那時、突來的死滅就臨到他們了——正如產難臨到懷孕的婦人一樣——他們斷不能逃脫。

瑣安的首領極其愚昧，法老大有智慧的謀士所設的乃是畜類無知的計謀。你們怎敢對法老說：『我是智慧人的兒子，我是古時君王的子孫』呢？

那麼在他不期待的日子、不知不覺的時辰、那奴僕的主人必來，

這話在王口中，還未說完，就有聲音從天上傳下來，說：『尼布甲尼撒王啊，有神言是對你說的：國權已經離開了你了。

因為人類並不知道他自己的定時：魚怎樣被捉住於致禍的網裏，鳥怎樣被捉住於機檻中，人類當禍患時、災禍忽然降到他們身上時、人也怎樣被羅住。

不知不覺，到洪水來了，把一切都沖了去：人子之御臨也必這樣。

以下是摩西在約但河東邊、在曠野疏弗對面的亞拉巴、在一面巴蘭、一面陀弗、拉班、哈洗錄、底撒哈之間、向以色列眾人所說的話。
