如果不是耶和华帮助我们；那么，人起来攻击我们，向我们发怒的时候，就把我们活活吞下去了。

然而我为了我名的缘故没有这样作，免得我的名在他们寄居的列国的人眼中被亵渎，我把他们从埃及地领出来，在列国的人眼前向他们显现。

摩西对耶和华说：“这样埃及人必听见这事，因为你曾用大能，把这民从他们中间领上来；

我原想：“我要把他们分散到各处，把他们的名号都从人间除灭。”但我惧怕仇人激动我，恐怕敌人误会了，又恐怕他们说：“是我们的手高举了，并不是耶和华作了这一切事。”’

我们和我们的列祖都犯了罪，我们作了孽，也行了恶。我们的列祖在埃及的时候，不明白你的奇事，也不记念你丰盛的慈爱，反倒在红海的海边悖逆了你。但他因自己的名的缘故拯救他们，为要彰显他的大能。
