Then Joshua said to Achan,“ Why have you brought trouble on us? The Lord will now bring trouble on you.” And all the Israelites stoned Achan and his family and burned their bodies.

“ Do not take any of the things set apart for destruction, or you yourselves will be completely destroyed, and you will bring trouble on the camp of Israel.

The son of Carmi( a descendant of Zimri) was Achan, who brought disaster on Israel by taking plunder that had been set apart for the Lord.

then the man or woman who has committed such an evil act must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death.

“ Take the blasphemer outside the camp, and tell all those who heard the curse to lay their hands on his head. Then let the entire community stone him to death.

Israel has sinned and broken my covenant! They have stolen some of the things that I commanded must be set apart for me. And they have not only stolen them but have lied about it and hidden the things among their own belongings.That is why the Israelites are running from their enemies in defeat. You will never defeat your enemies until you remove these things from among you.

“ Give the people of Israel these instructions, which apply both to native Israelites and to the foreigners living in Israel.“ If any of them offer their children as a sacrifice to Molech, they must be put to death. The people of the community must stone them to death.

Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.

“ If a priest’s daughter defiles herself by becoming a prostitute, she also defiles her father’s holiness, and she must be burned to death.

“ But soon their captives will taunt them. They will mock them, saying,‘ What sorrow awaits you thieves! Now you will get what you deserve! You’ve become rich by extortion, but how much longer can this go on?’Suddenly, your debtors will take action. You committed murder throughout the countryside and filled the towns with violence.“ What sorrow awaits you who build big houses with money gained dishonestly! You believe your wealth will buy security, putting your family’s nest beyond the reach of danger.

Stone the guilty ones to death because they have tried to draw you away from the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of slavery.

Afterward Jacob said to Simeon and Levi,“ You have ruined me! You’ve made me stink among all the people of this land— among all the Canaanites and Perizzites. We are so few that they will join forces and crush us. I will be ruined, and my entire household will be wiped out!”

In his justice he will pay back those who persecute you.

If this happens within a town,you must take both of them to the gates of that town and stone them to death. The woman is guilty because she did not scream for help. The man must die because he violated another man’s wife. In this way, you will purge this evil from among you.

The one who has stolen what was set apart for destruction will himself be burned with fire, along with everything he has, for he has broken the covenant of the Lord and has done a horrible thing in Israel.”

I just wish that those troublemakers who want to mutilate you by circumcision would mutilate themselves.

About three months later, Judah was told,“ Tamar, your daughter in law, has acted like a prostitute. And now, because of this, she’s pregnant.”“ Bring her out, and let her be burned!” Judah demanded.

Then all the men of his town must stone him to death. In this way, you will purge this evil from among you, and all Israel will hear about it and be afraid.
