Then Joshua, together with all Israel, took Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the gold bar, his sons and daughters, his cattle, donkeys and sheep, his tent and all that he had, to the Valley of Achor.

Then Joshua and all the people grabbed Achan, the son of Zerah. They took the silver, the robe and the gold bar. They took Achan’s sons and daughters. They took his cattle, donkeys and sheep. They also took his tent and everything he had. They carried all of it out to the Valley of Achor.

Then the border ascended to Debir from the Valley of Achor, turning north to the Gilgal that is opposite the Ascent of Adummim, which is south of the ravine. The border proceeded to the Waters of En-shemesh and ended at En-rogel.

Sharon will be a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a place for herds to lie down, for my people who have sought me.

There I will give her vineyards back to her and make the Valley of Achor into a gateway of hope. There she will respond as she did in the days of her youth, as in the day she came out of the land of Egypt.

The one who profits dishonestly troubles his household, but the one who hates bribes will live.

You could not possibly do such a thing: to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. You could not possibly do that! Won’t the Judge of the whole earth do what is just?”

They completely destroyed everything in the city with the sword— every man and woman, both young and old, and every ox, sheep, and donkey.

When he fills his stomach, God will send his burning anger against him, raining it down on him while he is eating.If he flees from an iron weapon, an arrow from a bronze bow will pierce him.He pulls it out of his back, the flashing tip out of his liver. Terrors come over him.Total darkness is reserved for his treasures. A fire unfanned by human hands will consume him; it will feed on what is left in his tent.The heavens will expose his iniquity, and the earth will rise up against him.The possessions in his house will be removed, flowing away on the day of God’s anger.

He swallows wealth but must vomit it up; God will force it from his stomach.

“‘ Now look, I clap my hands together against the dishonest profit you have made and against the blood shed among you.Will your courage endure or your hands be strong in the days when I deal with you? I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will act.

The Israelites, however, were unfaithful regarding the things set apart for destruction. Achan son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of what was set apart, and the LORD’s anger burned against the Israelites.

There is a sickening tragedy I have seen under the sun: wealth kept by its owner to his harm.

But keep yourselves from the things set apart, or you will be set apart for destruction. If you take any of those things, you will set apart the camp of Israel for destruction and make trouble for it.
