接著耶穌對他們說：「你們要注意，要提防一切貪心，因為一個人的生命不在於他財產的豐厚。」

求你使我轉眼不看虛妄的事，使我在你的道路上存活。

禍哉！那些向耶和華深深隱瞞計劃的人！他們所做的都在黑暗之中，他們說：「誰會看見我們呢？誰會知道我們呢？」

一旦欲望懷了胎，就生下罪來；罪長成了，就生出死亡。

他們離開了正道就被迷惑，隨從了比珥的兒子巴蘭的路——這巴蘭喜愛不義的酬報，

至於淫亂和一切汙穢，或是貪心，在你們中間連提都不可提，這樣才與聖徒相宜。

大衛派人到約押那裡說：「你派赫提人烏利亞來見我。」約押就派烏利亞去見大衛。烏利亞來了，大衛問他約押是否平安、軍兵是否平安、戰事是否順利。然後大衛對烏利亞說：「你回自己家去，洗腳休息吧。」烏利亞就從王宮出來，隨後有一份王的禮物也跟著送來。烏利亞卻與他主人的眾臣僕一起睡在王宮門口，沒有回自己的家。有人向大衛報告說：「烏利亞沒有回自己的家。」大衛就問烏利亞：「你不是從遠路而來嗎？為什麼不回家去呢？」烏利亞回答大衛：「約櫃、以色列人和猶大人都住在帳幕裡，我主約押和我主的臣僕們都在野外紮營，我卻回自己家去吃喝，與妻子同寢嗎？我指著王和王的生命起誓：我絕不做這樣的事！」大衛對烏利亞說：「你今天也留在這裡，明天我送你走。」那天，烏利亞就留在耶路撒冷。第二天，大衛召他來一起吃喝，把他灌醉了。傍晚他出去，還是到他主人的臣僕們那裡，睡在自己的床鋪上，沒有回自己的家。到了早晨，大衛寫了一封書信給約押，讓烏利亞帶去。他在書信裡寫著說：「你要把烏利亞派到戰事激烈的前線，然後你們退到他後面，讓他被擊殺而死。」那時約押正在圍攻敵城，他就把烏利亞安排到他所知道敵兵最強的地方。城裡的人出來與約押交戰，軍隊中大衛的一些臣僕倒下了，赫提人烏利亞也死了。

那麼，我們要怎麼說呢？難道律法是罪嗎？絕對不是！然而，要不是藉著律法，我就不知道什麼是罪。如果律法沒有說「不可貪心」，我就不知道什麼是貪心；但是，罪藉著誡命，趁機在我裡面生出種種貪念。原來在律法之外，罪是死的。

有一天，傍晚的時候，大衛從床上起來，在王宮的屋頂上走動。他從屋頂上看見一個女人在洗澡，這女人容貌極其美麗。

你們曾說：「我們與死亡立了約，與陰間定了協議；衝擊而來的鞭子經過時，不會臨到我們；我們以謊言為避難所，用虛假隱藏自己。」

你們行事為人不要愛錢財，要以現有的為滿足，因為神自己說過：「我絕不撇下你，也絕不離棄你。」

被掩蓋的事沒有將不被顯露出來的，隱祕的事也沒有將不被知道的。

他的王國起始於示拿地的巴別、以力、亞甲、甲尼。

當謹守你的心，勝過保守一切，因為生命的泉源由心而出。

但是我告訴你們：所有懷著慾念看女人的，就已經在心裡和她通姦了。如果你的右眼使你絆倒，就把它剜出來丟掉！因為對你來說，失去你身體的一部分，總比你全身被丟進地獄要好。

雖然酒發紅、在杯中閃爍、下咽舒暢，但你不要去看它。

女人見那棵樹的果實作為食物很好，又悅人眼目，並且因使人有智慧而令人喜愛，就摘下果實吃了，還給了與她在一起的丈夫，她丈夫也吃了。

實際上你們應當清楚知道這一點：所有淫亂的、汙穢的，或貪心的——就是拜偶像的——在基督和神的國度裡都得不到繼業。

所以，當把你們屬世的各個部分看為死了的，就如淫亂、汙穢、邪情、惡慾和貪心，貪心就是拜偶像。

貪婪的人，急切要發財，但他不明白窮乏將臨到他。

神的兒子們看到人的女兒們美麗，就從中任意挑選，為自己娶來為妻。

至於那些想發財的人就會陷入試探、網羅以及很多無知有害的欲望裡；這些欲望使人沉溺在敗壞和滅亡中。要知道，貪愛金錢是萬惡之根；有些人戀慕金錢，就被迷惑而離開了信仰，用很多苦痛把自己刺透了。
