At that time Joshua pronounced this solemn oath:“ Cursed before the Lord is the one who undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho:“ At the cost of his firstborn son he will lay its foundations; at the cost of his youngest he will set up its gates.”

At that time Joshua made a promise and called down a curse. He said,“ May the person who tries to rebuild this city of Jericho be under the Lord’ s curse.“ If that person lays its foundations, it will cost the life of his oldest son. If he sets up its gates, it will cost the life of his youngest son.”

Joshua laid an oath on them at that time, saying,“ Cursed before the Lord be the man who rises up and rebuilds this city, Jericho.“ At the cost of his firstborn shall he lay its foundation, and at the cost of his youngest son shall he set up its gates.”

At that time Joshua invoked this curse:“ May the curse of the Lord fall on anyone who tries to rebuild the town of Jericho. At the cost of his firstborn son, he will lay its foundation. At the cost of his youngest son, he will set up its gates.”

At that time Joshua imposed this curse: The man who undertakes the rebuilding of this city, Jericho, is cursed before the LORD. He will lay its foundation at the cost of his firstborn; he will finish its gates at the cost of his youngest.

Then Joshua made them take an oath at that time, saying,“ Cursed before the Lord is the man who rises up and builds this city Jericho; with the loss of his firstborn he will lay its foundation, and with the loss of his youngest son he will set up its gates.”

Then Joshua charged them at that time, saying,“ Cursed be the man before the Lord who rises up and builds this city Jericho; he shall lay its foundation with his firstborn, and with his youngest he shall set up its gates.”

And Joshua charged them with an oath at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before Jehovah, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: with the loss of his first- born shall he lay the foundation thereof, and with the loss of his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.

At that time Joshua imposed this curse: The man who undertakes the rebuilding of this city, Jericho, is cursed before the Lord. He will lay its foundation at the cost of his firstborn; he will set up its gates at the cost of his youngest.

And Joshua adjured[ them] at that time, saying, Cursed[ be] the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest[ son] shall he set up the gates of it.

At that time Joshua made this solemn declaration:“ The man who attempts to rebuild this city of Jericho will stand condemned before the LORD. He will lose his firstborn son when he lays its foundations and his youngest son when he erects its gates!”

Joshua commanded them with an oath at that time, saying,“ Cursed is the man before Yahweh who rises up and builds this city Jericho. With the loss of his firstborn he will lay its foundation, and with the loss of his youngest son he will set up its gates.”

祭司要叫婦人起誓，對她說：『若沒有人與你同寢，若你未曾背着丈夫做污穢的事，你就能免去這致詛咒的苦水。但你背着丈夫，玷污自己，跟丈夫以外的人同寢。』祭司叫婦人賭咒起誓，祭司對她說：『當耶和華使你大腿萎縮，肚腹腫脹時，願耶和華使你在你百姓中成為詛咒和咒罵；

那日，以色列人非常困憊，因為掃羅叫百姓起誓說：「凡不等到晚上我向敵人報完了仇就吃東西的，必受詛咒。」因此所有的百姓都沒有嘗食物。所有的百姓進入樹林，見地面上有蜜。百姓進了樹林，看哪，有蜜流出來，卻沒有人敢用手取蜜入口，因為百姓怕那誓言。約拿單沒有聽見他父親叫百姓起誓，所以他伸出手中的杖，以杖頭蘸在蜂房裏，用手取回送入口內，他的眼睛就明亮了。百姓中有一人對他說：「你父親曾叫百姓嚴嚴地起誓說，今日吃東西的人必受詛咒；因此百姓就疲乏了。」約拿單說：「我父親給這地添麻煩了。你們看，我嘗了這一點蜜，眼睛就明亮了。今日百姓若隨意吃了從仇敵奪來的東西，現在擊殺的非利士人豈不更多嗎？」這日，以色列人擊殺非利士人，從密抹直到亞雅崙。但百姓非常疲乏，就急着撲向掠物，奪取牛羊和牛犢，宰於地上，連肉帶血吃了。有人告訴掃羅說：「看哪，百姓吃帶血的肉，得罪耶和華了。」掃羅說：「你們行了詭詐，今日把一塊大石頭滾到我這裏來吧。」掃羅又說：「你們分散到百姓中，對他們說，你們各人把牛羊牽到我這裏來宰了吃，不可吃帶血的肉得罪耶和華。」那夜，所有的百姓把自己手中的牛牽到那裏宰了。掃羅為耶和華築了一座壇，這是他開始為耶和華築的壇。掃羅說：「我們要在夜裏下去追趕非利士人，搶掠他們，直到天亮，不給他們留下一人。」眾百姓說：「你看怎樣好就做吧！」祭司說：「我們要先在這裏親近上帝。」掃羅求問上帝說：「我可以下去追趕非利士人嗎？你把他們交在以色列人手裏嗎？」這日上帝沒有回答他。掃羅說：「百姓中的眾領袖，你們都要近前來到這裏，查明今日這罪是怎樣發生的。我指着拯救以色列的永生的耶和華起誓，就是我兒子約拿單犯了罪，他也必被處死。」但眾百姓中無人回答他。掃羅對以色列眾人說：「你們站在一邊，我與我兒子約拿單也站在一邊。」百姓對掃羅說：「你看怎樣好就做吧！」掃羅向耶和華－以色列的上帝禱告說：「求你指示正確的答案。」抽中的是掃羅和約拿單，百姓盡都無事。掃羅說：「你們再抽籤，看是我，還是我兒子約拿單。」抽中的是約拿單。掃羅對約拿單說：「你告訴我，你做了甚麼事？」約拿單說：「我只是用手中的杖，以杖頭蘸了一點蜜嘗嘗，看哪，我就要死嗎？」掃羅說：「約拿單哪，你一定要死！若不然，願上帝重重懲罰我。」百姓對掃羅說：「約拿單在以色列中大行拯救，豈可死呢？絕對不可！我們指着永生的耶和華起誓，連他的一根頭髮也不可落地，因為他今日與上帝一同做事。」於是百姓救約拿單免了死亡。掃羅上去，不追趕非利士人，非利士人也回本地去了。

王對他說：「我要你發誓多少次，你才會奉耶和華的名向我說實話呢？」
