And Joshua adjured[ them] at that time, saying, Cursed[ be] the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest[ son] shall he set up the gates of it.

那時約書亞將起誓作警告說：『凡起來重建這城、這耶利哥的、那人必在永恆主面前受咒詛：他立根基時必喪長子；他安門時必喪幼子。』

時、約書亞以誓戒眾曰、起而重建耶利哥城者、必服詛於耶和華、築基時、必喪長子、置門時、必喪季子、

於是約書亞誓曰、凡建耶利哥、當服詛於耶和華前、築基時、必喪長子、置門時、必喪季子。

當時約書亞誓曰、凡起而復建此耶利哥城者、當受詛於主前、築基時必喪長子、安門時必喪季子、

At that time Joshua pronounced this solemn oath:“ Cursed before the Lord is the one who undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho:“ At the cost of his firstborn son he will lay its foundations; at the cost of his youngest he will set up its gates.”

At that time Joshua made a promise and called down a curse. He said,“ May the person who tries to rebuild this city of Jericho be under the Lord’ s curse.“ If that person lays its foundations, it will cost the life of his oldest son. If he sets up its gates, it will cost the life of his youngest son.”

Joshua laid an oath on them at that time, saying,“ Cursed before the Lord be the man who rises up and rebuilds this city, Jericho.“ At the cost of his firstborn shall he lay its foundation, and at the cost of his youngest son shall he set up its gates.”

At that time Joshua invoked this curse:“ May the curse of the Lord fall on anyone who tries to rebuild the town of Jericho. At the cost of his firstborn son, he will lay its foundation. At the cost of his youngest son, he will set up its gates.”

At that time Joshua imposed this curse: The man who undertakes the rebuilding of this city, Jericho, is cursed before the LORD. He will lay its foundation at the cost of his firstborn; he will finish its gates at the cost of his youngest.

Then Joshua made them take an oath at that time, saying,“ Cursed before the Lord is the man who rises up and builds this city Jericho; with the loss of his firstborn he will lay its foundation, and with the loss of his youngest son he will set up its gates.”

Then Joshua charged them at that time, saying,“ Cursed be the man before the Lord who rises up and builds this city Jericho; he shall lay its foundation with his firstborn, and with his youngest he shall set up its gates.”

And Joshua charged them with an oath at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before Jehovah, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: with the loss of his first- born shall he lay the foundation thereof, and with the loss of his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.

At that time Joshua imposed this curse: The man who undertakes the rebuilding of this city, Jericho, is cursed before the Lord. He will lay its foundation at the cost of his firstborn; he will set up its gates at the cost of his youngest.

At that time Joshua made this solemn declaration:“ The man who attempts to rebuild this city of Jericho will stand condemned before the LORD. He will lose his firstborn son when he lays its foundations and his youngest son when he erects its gates!”

Joshua commanded them with an oath at that time, saying,“ Cursed is the man before Yahweh who rises up and builds this city Jericho. With the loss of his firstborn he will lay its foundation, and with the loss of his youngest son he will set up its gates.”

In his days did Hiel the Bethelite build Jericho: he laid the foundation thereof in Abiram his firstborn, and set up the gates thereof in his youngest[ son] Segub, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Joshua the son of Nun.

Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath indignation for ever.

But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.

Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

And the priest shall charge her by an oath, and say unto the woman, If no man have lain with thee, and if thou hast not gone aside to uncleanness[ with another] instead of thy husband, be thou free from this bitter water that causeth the curse:But if thou hast gone aside[ to another] instead of thy husband, and if thou be defiled, and some man have lain with thee beside thine husband:Then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman, The LORD make thee a curse and an oath among thy people, when the LORD doth make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to swell;

And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed[ be] the man that eateth[ any] food until evening, that I may be avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted[ any] food.And all[ they of] the land came to a wood; and there was honey upon the ground.And when the people were come into the wood, behold, the honey dropped; but no man put his hand to his mouth: for the people feared the oath.But Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that[ was] in his hand, and dipped it in an honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were enlightened.Then answered one of the people, and said, Thy father straitly charged the people with an oath, saying, Cursed[ be] the man that eateth[ any] food this day. And the people were faint.Then said Jonathan, My father hath troubled the land: see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.How much more, if haply the people had eaten freely to day of the spoil of their enemies which they found? for had there not been now a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?And they smote the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon: and the people were very faint.And the people flew upon the spoil, and took sheep, and oxen, and calves, and slew[ them] on the ground: and the people did eat[ them] with the blood.Then they told Saul, saying, Behold, the people sin against the LORD, in that they eat with the blood. And he said, Ye have transgressed: roll a great stone unto me this day.And Saul said, Disperse yourselves among the people, and say unto them, Bring me hither every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and slay[ them] here, and eat; and sin not against the LORD in eating with the blood. And all the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and slew[ them] there.And Saul built an altar unto the LORD: the same was the first altar that he built unto the LORD.And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever seemeth good unto thee. Then said the priest, Let us draw near hither unto God.And Saul asked counsel of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into the hand of Israel? But he answered him not that day.And Saul said, Draw ye near hither, all the chief of the people: and know and see wherein this sin hath been this day.For,[ as] the LORD liveth, which saveth Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But[ there was] not a man among all the people[ that] answered him.Then said he unto all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said unto Saul, Do what seemeth good unto thee.Therefore Saul said unto the LORD God of Israel, Give a perfect[ lot]. And Saul and Jonathan were taken: but the people escaped.And Saul said, Cast[ lots] between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that[ was] in mine hand,[ and], lo, I must die.And Saul answered, God do so and more also: for thou shalt surely die, Jonathan.And the people said unto Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? God forbid:[ as] the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, that he died not.Then Saul went up from following the Philistines: and the Philistines went to their own place.

And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but[ that which is] true in the name of the LORD?
