“ Do not take any of the things set apart for destruction, or you yourselves will be completely destroyed, and you will bring trouble on the camp of Israel.

所獻與所滅者勿取、恐爾亦為盡滅、使以色列族之營壘服詛、而累於禍。

物歸於主或為當滅者、爾自慎、勿取之、取之則成為當滅者、並使以色列全營亦為當滅者、陷之於禍、

But keep away from the devoted things, so that you will not bring about your own destruction by taking any of them. Otherwise you will make the camp of Israel liable to destruction and bring trouble on it.

But keep away from the things that have been set apart to the Lord. If you take any of them, you will be destroyed. And you will bring trouble on the camp of Israel. You will cause it to be destroyed.

But you, keep yourselves from the things devoted to destruction, lest when you have devoted them you take any of the devoted things and make the camp of Israel a thing for destruction and bring trouble upon it.

But keep yourselves from the things set apart, or you will be set apart for destruction. If you take any of those things, you will set apart the camp of Israel for destruction and make trouble for it.

But as for you, only keep yourselves from the things designated for destruction, so that you do not covet them and take some of the designated things, and turn the camp of Israel into something designated for destruction and bring disaster on it.

And you, by all means abstain from the accursed things, lest you become accursed when you take of the accursed things, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.

But as for you, only keep yourselves from the devoted thing, lest when ye have devoted it, ye take of the devoted thing; so would ye make the camp of Israel accursed, and trouble it.

But keep yourselves from the things set apart, or you will be set apart for destruction. If you take any of those things, you will set apart the camp of Israel for destruction and bring disaster on it.

And ye, in any wise keep[ yourselves] from the accursed thing, lest ye make[ yourselves] accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.

But be careful when you are setting apart the riches for the LORD. If you take any of it, you will make the Israelite camp subject to annihilation and cause a disaster.

But as for you, only keep yourselves from what is devoted to destruction, lest when you have devoted it, you take of the devoted thing; so you would make the camp of Israel accursed and trouble it.

Then Joshua said to Achan,“ Why have you brought trouble on us? The Lord will now bring trouble on you.” And all the Israelites stoned Achan and his family and burned their bodies.

Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them.

Israel has sinned and broken my covenant! They have stolen some of the things that I commanded must be set apart for me. And they have not only stolen them but have lied about it and hidden the things among their own belongings.That is why the Israelites are running from their enemies in defeat. For now Israel itself has been set apart for destruction. I will not remain with you any longer unless you destroy the things among you that were set apart for destruction.

But Israel violated the instructions about the things set apart for the Lord. A man named Achan had stolen some of these dedicated things, so the Lord was very angry with the Israelites. Achan was the son of Carmi, a descendant of Zimri son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah.

Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you.

When Ahab saw him, he exclaimed,“ So, is it really you, you troublemaker of Israel?”“ I have made no trouble for Israel,” Elijah replied.“ You and your family are the troublemakers, for you have refused to obey the commands of the Lord and have worshiped the images of Baal instead.

Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.

There was a famine during David’s reign that lasted for three years, so David asked the Lord about it. And the Lord said,“ The famine has come because Saul and his family are guilty of murdering the Gibeonites.”

“ Throw me into the sea,” Jonah said,“ and it will become calm again. I know that this terrible storm is all my fault.”

Better to have wisdom than weapons of war, but one sinner can destroy much that is good.

But one of the men saw him and said,“ Your father made the army take a strict oath that anyone who eats food today will be cursed. That is why everyone is weary and faint.”“ My father has made trouble for us all!” Jonathan exclaimed.“ A command like that only hurts us. See how refreshed I am now that I have eaten this little bit of honey.If the men had been allowed to eat freely from the food they found among our enemies, think how many more Philistines we could have killed!”They chased and killed the Philistines all day from Micmash to Aijalon, growing more and more faint.That evening they rushed for the battle plunder and butchered the sheep, goats, cattle, and calves, but they ate them without draining the blood.Someone reported to Saul,“ Look, the men are sinning against the Lord by eating meat that still has blood in it.”“ That is very wrong,” Saul said.“ Find a large stone and roll it over here.Then go out among the troops and tell them,‘ Bring the cattle, sheep, and goats here to me. Kill them here, and drain the blood before you eat them. Do not sin against the Lord by eating meat with the blood still in it.’” So that night all the troops brought their animals and slaughtered them there.Then Saul built an altar to the Lord; it was the first of the altars he built to the Lord.Then Saul said,“ Let’s chase the Philistines all night and plunder them until sunrise. Let’s destroy every last one of them.” His men replied,“ We’ll do whatever you think is best.” But the priest said,“ Let’s ask God first.”So Saul asked God,“ Should we go after the Philistines? Will you help us defeat them?” But God made no reply that day.Then Saul said to the leaders,“ Something’s wrong! I want all my army commanders to come here. We must find out what sin was committed today.I vow by the name of the Lord who rescued Israel that the sinner will surely die, even if it is my own son Jonathan!” But no one would tell him what the trouble was.Then Saul said,“ Jonathan and I will stand over here, and all of you stand over there.” And the people responded to Saul,“ Whatever you think is best.”Then Saul prayed,“ O Lord, God of Israel, please show us who is guilty and who is innocent.” Then they cast sacred lots, and Jonathan and Saul were chosen as the guilty ones, and the people were declared innocent.Then Saul said,“ Now cast lots again and choose between me and Jonathan.” And Jonathan was shown to be the guilty one.

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.

The one who has stolen what was set apart for destruction will himself be burned with fire, along with everything he has, for he has broken the covenant of the Lord and has done a horrible thing in Israel.”

Do not bring any detestable objects into your home, for then you will be destroyed, just like them. You must utterly detest such things, for they are set apart for destruction.

Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the Lord will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a large nation, just as he swore to your ancestors.

And yet today you are turning away from following the Lord. If you rebel against the Lord today, he will be angry with all of us tomorrow.“ If you need the altar because the land you possess is defiled, then join us in the Lord’s land, where the Tabernacle of the Lord is situated, and share our land with us. But do not rebel against the Lord or against us by building an altar other than the one true altar of the Lord our God.Didn’t divine anger fall on the entire community of Israel when Achan, a member of the clan of Zerah, sinned by stealing the things set apart for the Lord? He was not the only one who died because of his sin.”
