耶和华对约书亚说：“我今日将埃及的羞辱从你们身上除掉了。”因此，那地方名叫吉甲，直到今日。

我的百姓啊，当记念从前摩押王巴勒如何筹算，比珥的儿子巴兰如何回应他，当记念从什亭到吉甲所发生的事，好使你们明白耶和华公义的作为。”

不要往伯特利寻求，不要进入吉甲，也不要过到别是巴；因为吉甲必被掳走，伯特利必归无有。”

这地界是从亚割谷往北上到底璧，直向亚都冥斜坡对面的吉甲，就是河的南边，这地界再经过隐‧示麦泉，直通到隐‧罗结。

基遍人就派人到吉甲的营中约书亚那里，说：“不要袖手不顾你的仆人，求你赶快上来拯救我们，帮助我们，因为住山区亚摩利人的诸王已经联合来攻击我们。”

“你们要以本月为正月，为一年之首。你们要吩咐以色列全会众说：本月初十，各人要按着家庭取羔羊，一家一只羔羊。

撒母耳对百姓说：“来，我们到吉甲去，在那里开始新的王国。”众百姓到了吉甲那里，在耶和华面前拥立扫罗为王，又在耶和华面前献平安祭。扫罗和以色列众人在那里都非常欢喜。

“以色列人哪，任你们往伯特利去犯罪，到吉甲增加罪过，每早晨献上你们的祭物，每三日纳你们的十一奉献；

撒母耳说：“你既用刀使妇人丧子，你母亲在妇人中也必照样丧子。”于是，撒母耳在吉甲耶和华面前把亚甲砍碎了。

于是约书亚和跟他一起的以色列众人回到吉甲的营中。
