耶和華對約書亞說：「我今日將埃及的羞辱從你們身上除掉了。」因此，那地方名叫吉甲，直到今日。

我的百姓啊，當記念從前摩押王巴勒如何籌算，比珥的兒子巴蘭如何回應他，當記念從什亭到吉甲所發生的事，好使你們明白耶和華公義的作為。」

不要往伯特利尋求，不要進入吉甲，也不要過到別是巴；因為吉甲必被擄走，伯特利必歸無有。」

這地界是從亞割谷往北上到底璧，直向亞都冥斜坡對面的吉甲，就是河的南邊，這地界再經過隱‧示麥泉，直通到隱‧羅結。

基遍人就派人到吉甲的營中約書亞那裏，說：「不要袖手不顧你的僕人，求你趕快上來拯救我們，幫助我們，因為住山區亞摩利人的諸王已經聯合來攻擊我們。」

「你們要以本月為正月，為一年之首。你們要吩咐以色列全會眾說：本月初十，各人要按着家庭取羔羊，一家一隻羔羊。

撒母耳對百姓說：「來，我們到吉甲去，在那裏開始新的王國。」眾百姓到了吉甲那裏，在耶和華面前擁立掃羅為王，又在耶和華面前獻平安祭。掃羅和以色列眾人在那裏都非常歡喜。

「以色列人哪，任你們往伯特利去犯罪，到吉甲增加罪過，每早晨獻上你們的祭物，每三日納你們的十一奉獻；

撒母耳說：「你既用刀使婦人喪子，你母親在婦人中也必照樣喪子。」於是，撒母耳在吉甲耶和華面前把亞甲砍碎了。

於是約書亞和跟他一起的以色列眾人回到吉甲的營中。
