On the tenth day of the first month the people went up from the Jordan and camped at Gilgal on the eastern border of Jericho.

And the border went up to Debir from the Valley of Achor, and turned northward toward Gilgal which is opposite the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south of the valley; and the border continued to the waters of En shemesh and it ended at En rogel.

Then the men of Gibeon sent word to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, saying,“ Do not abandon your servants; come up to us quickly and save us and help us, for all the kings of the Amorites that live in the hill country have assembled against us.”

“ This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year for you.Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying,‘ On the tenth of this month they are, each one, to take a lamb for themselves, according to the fathers’ households, a lamb for each household.

Then Samuel said to the people,“ Come, and let us go to Gilgal and renew the kingdom there.”So all the people went to Gilgal, and there they made Saul king before the Lord in Gilgal. There they also offered sacrifices of peace offerings before the Lord; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.

“ Enter Bethel and do wrong; In Gilgal multiply wrongdoing! Bring your sacrifices every morning, Your tithes every three days.

But Samuel said,“ As your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women.” And Samuel cut Agag to pieces before the Lord at Gilgal.

So Joshua and all Israel with him returned to the camp at Gilgal.
