永恆主對約書亞說：『我今日把埃及的恥辱從你們身上輥去了』。因此那地方到今日還叫做吉甲。

我的子民哪，你們要記得摩押王巴勒所計謀的，和比珥的兒子巴蘭所回答他的，以及你們從什亭到吉甲所遇見的，好使你們知道永恆主的義氣。』

不要尋求伯特利，不要進吉甲，不要過去到別是巴；因為吉甲真地會流亡，伯特利必變成了伯亞文。』

又從亞割山谷往北上底璧，直向谿谷南邊亞都冥坡對面的吉甲；那界線過到隱示麥水，其終點就在隱羅結；

基遍人就打發人往吉甲營中去見約書亞，說：『你不要袖手不顧你僕人；求你趕快上我們這裏來拯救我們，幫助我們；因為住山地的亞摩利人所有的王都集合了來攻擊我們了。』

『這一個月要做你們的正月，做你們一年中的頭一個月。你們要告訴以色列全會眾說：本月十日、他們要取小羊，各按父系的家屬，一家一隻。

撒母耳對人民說：『來吧，我們往吉甲去，在那裏更新君王國事。』眾民就都到吉甲去，便在吉甲那裏、永恆主面前設立了掃羅為王；也在那裏在永恆主面前獻平安祭；在那裏掃羅和以色列眾人都非常歡喜。

『到伯特利去行悖逆吧！到吉甲去增加反叛吧！早晨獻上你們的祭物！每三日奉上你們的十分之一吧！

撒母耳說：『你怎樣用刀使婦人們喪失兒子，你母親也必怎樣在婦人中喪失兒子。』於是撒母耳在吉甲永恆主面前、將亞甲砍成塊子。

於是約書亞同以色列眾人返回到吉甲營中。
