耶和華對約書亞說：「我今日將埃及的羞辱從你們身上滾去了。」因此，那地方名叫吉甲，直到今日。

我的百姓啊，你們當追念摩押王巴勒所設的謀和比珥的兒子巴蘭回答他的話，並你們從什亭到吉甲所遇見的事，好使你們知道耶和華公義的作為。

不要往伯特利尋求，不要進入吉甲，不要過到別是巴；因為吉甲必被擄掠，伯特利也必歸於無有。

從亞割谷往北，上到底璧，直向河南亞都冥坡對面的吉甲；又接連到隱‧示麥泉，直通到隱‧羅結，

基遍人就打發人往吉甲的營中去見約書亞，說：「你不要袖手不顧你的僕人，求你速速上來拯救我們，幫助我們，因為住山地亞摩利人的諸王都聚集攻擊我們。」

「你們要以本月為正月，為一年之首。你們吩咐以色列全會眾說：本月初十日，各人要按着父家取羊羔，一家一隻。

撒母耳對百姓說：「我們要往吉甲去，在那裏立國。」眾百姓就到了吉甲那裏，在耶和華面前立掃羅為王，又在耶和華面前獻平安祭。掃羅和以色列眾人大大歡喜。

以色列人哪，任你們往伯特利去犯罪，到吉甲加增罪過；每日早晨獻上你們的祭物，每三日奉上你們的十分之一。

撒母耳說：「你既用刀使婦人喪子，這樣，你母親在婦人中也必喪子。」於是，撒母耳在吉甲耶和華面前將亞甲殺死。

於是約書亞和以色列眾人回到吉甲的營中。
