耶和华对约书亚说：“我今日将埃及的羞辱从你们身上滚去了。”因此，那地方名叫吉甲，直到今日。

我的百姓啊，你们当追念摩押王巴勒所设的谋和比珥的儿子巴兰回答他的话，并你们从什亭到吉甲所遇见的事，好使你们知道耶和华公义的作为。”

不要往伯特利寻求，不要进入吉甲，不要过到别是巴；因为吉甲必被掳掠，伯特利也必归于无有。”

从亚割谷往北，上到底璧，直向河南亚都冥坡对面的吉甲；又接连到隐示麦泉，直通到隐罗结，

基遍人就打发人往吉甲的营中去见约书亚，说：“你不要袖手不顾你的仆人，求你速速上来拯救我们，帮助我们，因为住山地亚摩利人的诸王都聚集攻击我们。”

“你们要以本月为正月，为一年之首。你们吩咐以色列全会众说：本月初十日，各人要按着父家取羊羔，一家一只。

撒母耳对百姓说：“我们要往吉甲去，在那里立国。”众百姓就到了吉甲那里，在耶和华面前立扫罗为王，又在耶和华面前献平安祭。扫罗和以色列众人大大欢喜。

“以色列人哪，任你们往伯特利去犯罪，到吉甲加增罪过；每日早晨献上你们的祭物，每三日奉上你们的十分之一。

撒母耳说：“你既用刀使妇人丧子，这样，你母亲在妇人中也必丧子。”于是，撒母耳在吉甲耶和华面前将亚甲杀死。

于是约书亚和以色列众人回到吉甲的营中。
