耶和華對約書亞說：“我今日把埃及的恥辱從你們身上輥去了。”因此，那地方名叫吉甲（“吉甲”意即“輥”），直到今日。

我的民哪！你們要追念，摩押王巴勒圖謀過甚麼，比珥的兒子巴蘭又答應了他甚麼，以及你們從什亭到吉甲所發生的事，好使你們知道耶和華公義的作為。”

不要去伯特利尋求我，不要去吉甲，也不要過去別是巴。因為吉甲必被擄掠，伯特利必化為烏有。”

又從亞割谷上到底璧，再北轉到河的南邊亞都冥山坡對面的吉甲去；又經過隱．示麥水泉，直通到隱．羅結；

基遍人就派人到吉甲營中約書亞那裡去，說：“不可丟棄你的僕人，求你快快上我們這裡來拯救我們、幫助我們；因為住在山地的亞摩利人所有的王都集合起來攻擊我們。”

“你們要以本月為正月，為一年的第一個月。你們要告訴以色列全體會眾說：本月初十，他們各人要按著父家取羊羔，一家一隻。

撒母耳對眾民說：“來吧，我們往吉甲去，好在那裡重新建立王國。”眾民就都到吉甲去，在那裡在耶和華面前立掃羅為王，又在那裡在耶和華面前獻平安祭。掃羅和以色列眾民都在那裡，非常歡喜。

“你們去伯特利犯罪，在吉甲增加過犯吧！每早獻上你們的祭物，每三日獻上你們的十分之一吧！

撒母耳說：“你的刀怎樣使婦人喪子，你的母親在婦人中也要怎樣喪子。”於是撒母耳在吉甲，在耶和華面前把亞甲斬成碎塊。

於是約書亞和與他在一起的眾以色列人回到吉甲營中。
