耶和华对约书亚说：“我今日把埃及的耻辱从你们身上辊去了。”因此，那地方名叫吉甲（“吉甲”意即“辊”），直到今日。

我的民哪！你们要追念，摩押王巴勒图谋过什么，比珥的儿子巴兰又答应了他什么，以及你们从什亭到吉甲所发生的事，好使你们知道耶和华公义的作为。”

不要去伯特利寻求我，不要去吉甲，也不要过去别是巴。因为吉甲必被掳掠，伯特利必化为乌有。”

又从亚割谷上到底璧，再北转到河的南边亚都冥山坡对面的吉甲去；又经过隐．示麦水泉，直通到隐．罗结；

基遍人就派人到吉甲营中约书亚那里去，说：“不可丢弃你的仆人，求你快快上我们这里来拯救我们、帮助我们；因为住在山地的亚摩利人所有的王都集合起来攻击我们。”

“你们要以本月为正月，为一年的第一个月。你们要告诉以色列全体会众说：本月初十，他们各人要按着父家取羊羔，一家一只。

撒母耳对众民说：“来吧，我们往吉甲去，好在那里重新建立王国。”众民就都到吉甲去，在那里在耶和华面前立扫罗为王，又在那里在耶和华面前献平安祭。扫罗和以色列众民都在那里，非常欢喜。

“你们去伯特利犯罪，在吉甲增加过犯吧！每早献上你们的祭物，每三日献上你们的十分之一吧！

撒母耳说：“你的刀怎样使妇人丧子，你的母亲在妇人中也要怎样丧子。”于是撒母耳在吉甲，在耶和华面前把亚甲斩成碎块。

于是约书亚和与他在一起的众以色列人回到吉甲营中。
