耶和華對約書亞說：「今天我除去了你們在埃及受的羞辱。」因此，那地方叫吉甲，沿用至今。

我的子民啊，你們要回想摩押王巴勒的陰謀以及比珥之子巴蘭給他的回答，要回想你們從什亭到吉甲途中的遭遇，以便認識耶和華公義的作為。」

不要去伯特利求問，不要進入吉甲，也不要前往別示巴，因為吉甲人必被擄去，伯特利也必化為烏有。」

從亞割谷往北到底璧，到谷南亞都冥隘口對面的吉甲，經隱·示麥泉，直到隱·羅結；

基遍人派人去吉甲告訴約書亞說：「住在山區的亞摩利眾王正聯合起來攻打我們，求你趕快來救我們！不要不顧你的僕人。」

「從現在開始，你們要以這個月為一月，為一年之首。你要向以色列全體會眾宣佈，本月的第十日，每家都要預備一隻羊羔，一家一隻。

撒母耳對民眾說：「來吧，我們到吉甲去，在那裡重新立國。」於是，他們來到吉甲，在耶和華面前立掃羅為王，又向耶和華獻上平安祭。掃羅和全體以色列人都非常歡喜。

「以色列人啊，你們去伯特利犯罪吧，去吉甲增添罪惡吧！要每天早晨獻上祭物，每三天奉上你們的十分之一。

但撒母耳對他說：「你的刀怎樣使婦人失去兒女，你的母親也要怎樣喪去她的兒子。」於是，撒母耳就在吉甲，在耶和華面前把亞甲殺死了。

之後，約書亞率領以色列人回到吉甲的營地。
