耶和華對約書亞說：「從今日起，我必使你在以色列眾人眼前被尊為大，使他們知道我怎樣與摩西同在，也必照樣與你同在。

他們回答約書亞說：「凡你吩咐我們的，我們都必做；凡你差我們去的地方，我們都必去。我們在一切事上怎樣聽從摩西，也必照樣聽從你。惟願耶和華－你的神與你同在，像與摩西同在一樣。無論甚麼人違背你的命令，不聽從你所吩咐他的一切話，就必處死。你只要剛強壯膽！」

於是撒母耳求告耶和華，耶和華就在這日打雷降雨，眾百姓就非常懼怕耶和華和撒母耳。

我兒啊，你要敬畏耶和華與君王，不可結交反覆無常的人，

神也按手在猶大人身上，使他們一心遵行王與眾領袖照着耶和華的話所發的命令。

因為他是神的用人，是與你有益的。你若作惡，就該懼怕，因為他不是徒然佩劍；他是神的用人，為神的憤怒，報應作惡的。

以色列人看見耶和華向埃及人所施展的大能，百姓就敬畏耶和華，並且信服耶和華和他的僕人摩西。

都在雲裏、海裏受洗歸了摩西，

全以色列聽見王這樣判斷，就都敬畏王，因為他們看見他心中有神的智慧，能夠斷案。
