耶和華對約書亞說：「從今日起，我必使你在以色列眾人眼前尊大，使他們知道我怎樣與摩西同在，也必照樣與你同在。

他們回答約書亞說：「你所吩咐我們行的，我們都必行；你所差遣我們去的，我們都必去。我們從前在一切事上怎樣聽從摩西，現在也必照樣聽從你；惟願耶和華－你的神與你同在，像與摩西同在一樣。無論甚麼人違背你的命令，不聽從你所吩咐他的一切話，就必治死他。你只要剛強壯膽！」

於是撒母耳求告耶和華，耶和華就在這日打雷降雨，眾民便甚懼怕耶和華和撒母耳。

我兒，你要敬畏耶和華與君王，不要與反覆無常的人結交，

神也感動猶大人，使他們一心遵行王與眾首領憑耶和華之言所發的命令。

因為他是神的用人，是與你有益的。你若作惡，卻當懼怕，因為他不是空空地佩劍；他是神的用人，是伸冤的，刑罰那作惡的。

以色列人看見耶和華向埃及人所行的大事，就敬畏耶和華，又信服他和他的僕人摩西。

都在雲裏、海裏受洗歸了摩西；

以色列眾人聽見王這樣判斷，就都敬畏他；因為見他心裏有神的智慧，能以斷案。
