But I took your father Abraham from the land beyond the Euphrates and led him throughout Canaan and gave him many descendants. I gave him Isaac,

耶和华对亚伯兰说：“你要离开本地、本族、父家，往我所要指示你的地去。我必使你成为大国，我必赐福给你，使你的名为大；你要使别人得福。为你祝福的，我必赐福给他；诅咒你的，我必诅咒他。地上的万族都必因你得福。”亚伯兰就遵照耶和华的吩咐去了；罗得也和他同去。亚伯兰离开哈兰的时候年七十五岁。

司提反说：“诸位父老弟兄请听！从前我们的祖宗亚伯拉罕在美索不达米亚，还没有住在哈兰的时候，荣耀的上帝向他显现，对他说：‘你要离开本地和亲族，往我所要指示你的地去。’

亚伯拉罕年老，到上帝对他说的那所定的时候，撒拉怀了孕，给他生了一个儿子。亚伯拉罕给撒拉所生的儿子起名叫以撒。

看哪，儿女是耶和华所赐的产业，所怀的胎是他所给的赏赐。

你是耶和华上帝，曾拣选亚伯兰，领他出迦勒底的吾珥，给他改名叫亚伯拉罕。你发现他在你面前心里忠诚，就与他立约，要把迦南人、赫人、亚摩利人、比利洗人、耶布斯人、革迦撒人之地赐给他的后裔，并且你也实现了你的话，因为你是公义的。

于是耶和华带他到外面，说：“你向天观看，去数星星，你能数得清吗？”又对他说：“你的后裔将要如此。”
