But I took your father Abraham from the land beyond the Euphrates and led him throughout Canaan and gave him many descendants. I gave him Isaac,

永恆主對亞伯蘭說：『你要離開你本地、你親族、你父親的家，往我所要指示你的地去。『我必使你成為大國；我必給你祝福，使你的名尊大；成為祝福的口頭語：給你祝福的，我也必給他祝福；咒詛你的，我也必咒詛他：地上萬宗族都必用你的名而給自己祝福。』亞伯蘭就照永恆主所吩咐他的去了；羅得也和他一同去。亞伯蘭出喀蘭的時候，正七十五歲。

司提反說：『同人，弟兄父老們，請聽。我們的先祖亞伯拉罕在米所波大米、還沒住在喀蘭的時候、榮耀之上帝向他顯現，對他說：「你要從你本地你親族中出來，到我所要指示你的地方去。」

當亞伯拉罕年老的時候、撒拉懷了孕；到上帝所對他說到的時節就給亞伯拉罕生了一個兒子。亞伯拉罕給撒拉為他所生的兒子起名叫以撒。

看哪，兒女是永恆主賜的產業；腹中出的果子是他賞報的。

永恆主啊，惟獨你是上帝，那曾揀選了亞伯蘭、領他出迦勒底之吾珥、給他起名叫亞伯拉罕的。你見他在你面前心裏忠信可靠，你就同他立約，要把迦南人、赫人、亞摩利人、比利洗人、耶布斯人、革迦撒人之地賜給他的後裔；你並且實行了你的話，因為你很有義氣。

就領他出去到外邊，說：『你望着天，數數眾星，看能數得過來不能。』又對他說：『你的後裔就要這樣。』
