But I took your father Abraham from the land beyond the Euphrates and led him throughout Canaan and gave him many descendants. I gave him Isaac,

I took your father Abraham from the land east of the Euphrates. I led him all through Canaan. I gave him many children and grandchildren. I gave him Isaac.

Then I took your father Abraham from beyond the River and led him through all the land of Canaan, and made his offspring many. I gave him Isaac.

耶和華對亞伯蘭說：「你當離開你的本土、本族、父家，往我將要指示你的地去。我要使你成為一個大國，我要祝福你，使你的名為大；你也必成為別人的祝福！祝福你的，我要祝福他；詛咒你的，我要詛咒他。地上萬族都必因你而蒙福。」亞伯蘭就照著耶和華吩咐他的去了，羅得也與他同去。亞伯蘭從哈蘭出來的時候年七十五歲。

司提反說：「各位父老兄弟，請聽！我們的先祖亞伯拉罕住哈蘭以前，還在美索不達米亞的時候，榮耀的神向他顯現，對他說：『你要離開你的故土和親族，到我所要指示你的地方去。』

撒拉懷了孕，到了神對亞伯拉罕說的那個所定時期，在亞伯拉罕年老的時候，為他生了一個兒子。亞伯拉罕給撒拉為他所生的兒子，起名為以撒。

看哪，兒女是耶和華所賜的繼業，腹中的胎兒就是賞報！

耶和華把他帶到外面，說：「你向天觀看，如果你能數清星辰，就去數吧！」又對他說：「你的後裔也必如此眾多。」
