亞伯蘭經過那地，直到示劍地方，摩利橡樹那裏；當時迦南人住在那地。

摩西從以色列人中選出有才能的人，立他們為百姓的領袖，作千夫長、百夫長、五十夫長、十夫長。他們隨時審判百姓：難斷的事就送到摩西那裏，各樣小事就由他們自行判決。

耶路巴力的兒子亞比米勒到示劍他的母舅那裏，對他們和他外祖父全家的人說：「請你們問示劍所有的居民：『是耶路巴力的眾兒子七十人都治理你們好，還是一人治理你們好呢？』你們要記得，我是你們的骨肉。」他的母舅們為他把這一切話說給示劍所有的居民聽，他們的心就傾向亞比米勒，因為他們說：「他是我們的弟兄。」

雅各從巴旦‧亞蘭平安地回到迦南地的示劍城，他在城的前面支搭帳棚。他用一百可錫塔從示劍的父親哈抹的眾子手中買了搭帳棚的那塊地。

他們就把手中所有外邦的神明和自己耳朵上的環子交給雅各；雅各把它們埋在示劍那裏的橡樹下。
