羅波安前往示劍，因為以色列人都去了那裡，要立他為王。

於是我立刻派人去請你。你能來，真是榮幸，現在我們都在上帝面前，想聆聽主吩咐你傳給我們的話。」

亞伯蘭繼續前行，來到示劍的摩利橡樹那裡。當時迦南人住在那地方。

從百姓中挑選有才幹的人，委派他們做千夫長、百夫長、五十夫長和十夫長管理百姓。他們負責隨時審理百姓的事，遇到難斷的案件就呈到摩西那裡，自己則審理普通的事。

耶路·巴力的兒子亞比米勒去示劍的舅舅家，對外祖父全家說：「請你們去問示劍人，耶路·巴力的七十個兒子統治他們好呢，還是一個人統治他們好呢？別忘記我是你們的骨肉至親。」他們便將他的話轉告示劍人。示劍人因為亞比米勒是他們的親戚，都擁護他，

這樣，雅各從巴旦·亞蘭平安地回到迦南的示劍城，在城外搭營居住。他搭營居住的這塊地是他用一百塊銀子向示劍的父親哈抹的子孫買的。

他們把所有外族的神像和自己的耳環都交給雅各，雅各把這些東西埋在示劍的橡樹下。
