Then Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh replied to the heads of the clans of Israel:

心畏主上帝、有人詰爾所望伊何、爾言當前定、而後以溫柔畏懼答之、

爾於民中、簡其具才能、惡苞苴、真實無妄、寅畏上帝者、立為千夫長、百夫長、五十夫長、十夫長、使其隨時鞫民、事大則告爾、事小則自鞫、共任此職、則爾事輕易舉。若爾蒙上帝命、以行是事、則爾可常存、民亦安歸故土。摩西聆訓、遵外舅之言以行、於以色列族中、簡才能出眾者、立為民長、即千夫長、百夫長、五十夫長、十夫長、

惟爾伯利恆、以法大、在猶大郡中、雖為卑微、然將有君於爾是出、代我牧以色列民、亙古以來即有之、顯著者屢矣。

彼得述其事、曰、

言未聽而妄應、拙不藏而貽羞。

凡我良朋、宜速聽、宜徐言、宜懲忿、

圖謀事理、則在乎人、聽其祈求、則在耶和華。

善於應對、人必接吻以為禮。

其言也溫、可以息怒、其辭也厲、足以激變。
