Then Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh replied to the heads of the clans of Israel:

but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,

Moreover, look for able men from all the people, men who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe, and place such men over the people as chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens.And let them judge the people at all times. Every great matter they shall bring to you, but any small matter they shall decide themselves. But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.

But Peter began and explained it to them in order:

If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame.

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;

The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.

Whoever gives an honest answer kisses the lips.

A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
